Yeah I get that. Makes sense but I think in terms of enthusiast demand M3 touring vs M5 touring the level of enthusiasm isn’t the same. I could be completely wrong though and simply just see it that way because of my personal bias. Will be interesting to see how it goes either way.

I feel like either probably will be. The current M5 Comp is what, $110k USD and the X5M Comp is $115k? This will be more than both of those.
Should be able to get a great deal on a low mileage one that's about 2 years old though.

BMW cited some federal regulation around battery placement which would have required they re-engineer a lot of the electrical system. That being said my old F30 Touring had the battery in the exact same place (back of the hatch area) and was Federalized without issue.
Either way, excited to see the M5 Touring coming. Not 100% I want one based on my test drive of the XM (same powertrain). Need to get more time with it prior to committing. |

That ship sailed long ago, weird people can't move on - still talking in retroactive hypotheticals like it matters somehow.

5-7% over the G90 M5 at most. More than that will just piss people off and reduce the already small (but enthusiastic) buyer pool.

I’m sure a few people will buy a M5 wagon instead of an X5M but not many. Most people who buy SUV’s are quite passionate about the ‘commanding’ driving position of an SUV. Thats a big reason why sedans don’t sell as well anymore. Plus, even SUVs are much more rugged and utilitarian than a performance wagon. Then there’s the seriously uncool perception of wagons by everyone who isn’t an enthusiast that will also keep SUVs churning out the sales results.

I love a sport wagon, but at this weight and auto transmission, the X5MC makes more sense.
A nice F series M3 wagon 6MT would have been nice. An E39 wagon 6MT would be an all time great. Yeah, this M5 will feel a bit more planted than the X5M, but it’s still really heavy. The RS6 is the best looking wagon on sale today. Too bad it’s also super heavy, auto and very expensive. |

As I mentioned before a nicely optioned M5 touring will be more than a X6M comp which is close to $140,000.

In the US, X5 sales were down 9.8k units in ‘23 and X6 down 3.6k. Seems like if someone is in the market for an X5M or X6M, they might consider the XM. Or the iX. Demand has shifted toward hybrid and BEV with the iX and XM combined for about the same amount of units the X6 and X5 declined

Wagons at the moment are being geared towards a completely demographic. That being said I’d take an M3 Touring over my current RS6 Avant hands down. |

I hypothesize a reason BMW brought the M5 wagon here and not the M3 wagon is to avoid a mismatched comparison of an M3 against RS6. I think BMW wanted to compete head to head.

Also with that I am holding the first allocation for the M5 Wagon at my local retailer and will say goodbye to the Avant. As long as BMW doesnt completely disappoint with its design. The RS6 is pure sex.

Agree that wagons are not that big in the US, having served in Germany for a total of 7 yrs, wagons are all over. Heck, almost got me one back in the days.

I was talking to my sales guy about this today. I mentioned my concern for the weight and he said, if it goes 0-60 in under 3 seconds who cares what it weighs.
He wasn’t thrilled with my reply saying that I don’t care how fast it is, with all that weight I want it to be able to stop. Lol
