BMW needs someone to keep the weight in check… 5k + lbs is way too much.

Forged engine, bigger turbos, faster spooling on turbos because of the insane torque from electric. Next gen suspension, wider tires! Faster than the last in every aspect and it will annihilate your favorite super car at 5,363lbs stock! Add some sauce and you’re at 1,000hp. Racecar with all the goodies and carbon bucket seats . 🔥🚀😜

What a sad day. Don’t forget the F90 on release was slightly less weight than the outgoing F10. I’ll be keeping my LCI F90 Comp till I die, thank you.

Could not agree more because weight is just one metric. Fleet overall emissions target influences what models get hybrid powertrains. This leaves BMW and other car manufacturers to focus on maximizing performance of ICE vehicles and profits.

Does one want lightest vehicle with the biggest powertrain? Sure.

Is it possible to achieve without regulatory and other requirements? Sure. Used Trabant with S63 engine will satisfy most power / weight goals. It might be difficult to insure and register this vehicle but the metric will be met.

5,300lbs? Yikes. Would’ve preferred if they made a hybrid version for the EU (or none at all) and a standalone gas version for the US.

i dont get how anyone could reasonably make excuses for a performance sedan that weighs as much as an f150 super crew lol... this is absolutely inexcusable and isnt a 300-400 lb gain which would already have been heavy

they legitimately need to instill a road tax on heavier vehicles because this is absurd

They could've just used the same S68 with a few tweaks and I think people would've been happier.

This is all about politics, emissions and gas mileage will prove better than previous version which is all they care about now (kind of have to). And US government won't put in a weight penalty because they are pushing for electrification.

can't weight to see how bad the already horrible Chicago roads will be with all these beasts on it in 5-10 years and without gas taxes not sure how they will repair them.

Seems bmw is following mercedes, the amg gt e performance weighs around 5300lbs, can't hide the weight from the batteries at all.

All I can say, is that with that type of weight, you are in the the electric car arena.

I hope it has hellacious brakes and I’m sorry that’s not enough tire for that weight, IMO.

So now the M2 is their last, true dual purpose car they make (street/track) smh

Looks like I'll be keeping my F80, get a new g05 msport and focus on a 992 gt3. The M badge is for show now

I am absolutely not surprised by these G90 specs, to be honest I thought it would have a bigger and heavier battery.

I wish I could blame BMW for all this but that would mean that there is a chance that this can get any better. The sad truth is that this will become worse and worse with every generation - I remember being disappointed that my F90 competition LCI had nearly two tons and was 100 kg havier than my old non Comp first edition - sounds like two light weight vehicles from todays point of view…

I think (looking at the G series m2/m3/m4, also heavy af) BMW will somehow manage to hide some of the weight but knowing that Porsche is also pretty good in chassis tuning and knowing how the Panamera e hybrid drives, hmm, well let’s see..
Good catch. It is indeed very comparable.

The weight still comes as a shock, I was wishfully thinking it’d come in at just less than 5000. It weighs considerably more than the full EV i5 M60….

In general, cars with that much weight do not have tires at all.

JK, I agree with those comparing it to current cars (Taycan, XM, etc.) not to other cars (someone said 911, why not throw in an Alpine too for good measure) or older ones.

And it looks great too. Interesting times, the ick for me is lack of manual. I can’t wait for this electric fad to pass and for us to get our manuals back.

Holy cow! That's truck weight!

And people were complaining that the 3,700 lb G87 was too heavy.

Kind of assuming that EVs are with us for a good long while, and unfortunately manuals will be a thing of the past.
