Current G30 Leasers/Owners - What are you doing at lease end?

Hey everybody,

Just wanted to open a discussion as I imagine there are a few of us out there in the same boat. Currently in the last 5 months of my 2022 540i lease and have somewhat had my head in the clouds with the state of the market around the G60.

I assumed I could easily find an allocation for a 540, but after reading through a few posts it sounds like some of you who ordered months ago are still waiting!

I see a few 530s on dealer lots locally, but most are fairly base models and not looking to pay $70k for a loaded 530i.

anyhow, has BMW offered anybody pull-ahead lease programs once you get inside 3 months? Anybody looking at other brands? I talked to a few brokers and they even said 540s are hard to come by right now. Do we think this will change anytime soon? I don't see the demand being that high, as I am not sure I am sold on the body style yet and still need to drive one.

BMW has a mess on its hands with the 5 due to the recall(s) and stop sell. Dealers have many 5s in inventory they cannot sell until repairs are done. Parts are apparently still in short supply. You might find a dealer with some 540s in stock, awaiting parts. Two dealers I know said that customers who ordered are canceling, so the cars are available. Other potential customers learn of the stop-sale and simply go elsewhere.

My guess is you custom order now, you might get the car before your lease ends, but if it doesn't arrive, you can extend the lease on a monthly basis. And costs are going to be much higher than when you got your G30, just be ready for it. The lack of supply means few, if any, incentives. Forget about the good old "pull ahead" for these cars.

If you want a custom 5 series, better order 1 year in advance. Then you Might get it in time.

I think the short supply of the 540 is due to BMW not planning enough in advance. When the new 5 er came out, they were really pushing the new I5 to boost their BEV sales. There was the 530i as an option, but if you read a lot of the posts, it was missing things like the 4UR interaction bar. They replaced it with a much cheaper alternative. So the only way to get the interaction bar was to order an I5. They came out with the new 540 mid Model Year 2024 or so. And they were limited in supply. Most of the ones you might see are probably custom orders.

I waited for the 2025 MY to order my 540. I ordered on June 11, and got a Week 36 production. It finally arrived at the dealer the end of the week before Last, (Week 42 I believe). I will hopefully be able to take delivery today if my Spanish Reg comes in. Others have had their vehicles delayed at QC, Stop sales for the IBS, ore steering spindle etc.

Another reason could be that the G60 540 is currently a USA only model. (The G30 540 was available in Canada, and I believe Australia as well. Possibly other countries too.) So that means, since it has to share the 2 production lines with the rest of the lineup that may be going to other countries, as well as the 530 and I5, there are likely fewer allotments for them.

Also the B58 In Line 6 engine is shared with the 550e, M340i, M440i, 740i, And I think the M2, M3, M4, Toyota Supra, Ineos Grenadier, and others. They may be in short supply as well.

So until BMW straightens out the mess, 2024/25 540's will probably be rarer than M5's.

My G30 lease ended in august. I already knew I was going to order a 550e (order wen tin end of August, production was slated for 10/21 but started a bit early. My order is currently sitting at the port waiting to get on a vessel). I decided to return my lease and just use an extra car a family member has until I take delivery. I know that isn't the option for most. I did consider even just renting a car until my order was delivered (still cheaper than extending my lease) but again, was able to not go that route.

Side note: BMW no longer waives the disposition fee, even if you have a BMW order number or VIN. The BMW Finance rep told me when I take delivery, call back and they will refund me that fee. Ridiculous

That actually makes sense since you are returning the car before the replacement vehicle. Also, in theory, you can cancel the 550.

I am curious also. BMW often provides incentives to increase sales in December to keep thier #1 luxury slot. But this year is very different with the stop sale/recall impacting Q4 sales. I think they have given up, let Lexus take the top spot. My 550ex is also sitting at the port, awaiting a vessel. Hope it arrives before Jan 1, as traditional for BMW to increase lease rates, and any reduce support always disappears with the new year.
