2025 i5 Timeline

I ordered a 2025 i5 edrive40 on August 27. I'm just wondering how long it typically takes from placing the order until actual production starts. When I check the mygarage track my vehicle site it says "Your order has been received, and we're making space in the production schedule."

Currently that timeline is unknown. Quotes have been 45 to 90 days. Due to 2 recalls and who knows what else, myself and others have 5 series vehicles which have completed production and are stuck in Quality Control going on 8 weeks. I ordered June 30.

I think this initial step of being given a production slot, is one that has the biggest uncertainly, unless you hit an unexpected snag like recalls that stop you in QC (like someone already posted).

During this initial step, your individual dealership will play a significant role. How many allocations they get , were there orders in front of you. You should ask your dealer these questions. You could be sitting in this queue for longer than expected if they are a low production dealer and have taken build orders in front of you…

Once you are assigned a production week things should go a lot smoother and more predictable. I believe the biggest unknown after that, assuming nothing unexpected, is waiting at port to be assigned a ship. You can get there and go on right away or just miss one and wait a few weeks.

Edit- long story short. We cannot answer this until you have more clarity from your dealer. Once given an estimated month where the dealer thinks you will be given a production week, I’d assume maybe 8 weeks after that to make it over seas and to your dealer. But others would be better to answer with more specifics.

I placed my order for the i5 Touring e40 (Europe) during the first week of September. At first, the dealer promised I would be able to pick it up before Christmas, but now it looks like production will start in Jan W2-3. It's a bit disappointing 😥

I ordered my i5 M60 at the end of July. Original production week was mid September. Revised to early November. Now mid January. I get the recall and production issues, but still frustrating!

If your dealer has an allocation (which it sounds like they did since the order was accepted), they will be able to tell you the production week.

I am still baffled by the fact there were several of us that had week 36 builds and of all of them, I am one of the few that might actually get their car this week or next. Mine is simply sitting at the dealer waiting for the Spanish Gov't to process the registration. But it has passed unscathed, and uninterrupted through everything, for me to get it almost exactly when originally promised. No Stop Sales or recalls. No holds in QC, or anything of the sort. Now that could mean one of 2 things. Either the fact it is a US Spec car, custom ordered and built for me, under the US Military Sales program for EU Delivery, and EU dealers cannot process the VIN to check for recalls (Whenever I enter my US VIN in the Spanish MY BMW site, it tells me it is not a valid VIN) so they just deliver the car as is, and leave recall issues for when I get it to the US in a couple of years. (Although when I enter the VIN on the US NHTSA it comes up clean. No unrepaired recalls pending) OR it somehow miraculously squeaked through, without being affected by either the IBS or the steering spindle recalls. Someone else who is getting their car , or already got it, from week 36 said I had hit the beginning of week 36 "Sweet Spot". Whereas others have hit the blockade and are sitting in QC for the last 8 weeks and are pulling their hair out like ToddRGuy.

I guess I'll find out once I get the car, if it starts popping alerts for recalls on IDrive or something.

We placed our eDrive40 order in mid-Aug. Originally dealer said 3 months to delivery, but obviously we got caught up in the recall delays. I called the Genius line, and they said we are now slated to start 3rd week of January. So I'm guessing we won't get it until April.

In the meantime, I'm telling myself that I'm saving some money at least by having to wait!

Thanks for the info on the genius line. I called and got the same story. Maybe it'll be here for my birthday on April 11.

The thing is that you have to seperate production time from allocation waitlist time. I’m pretty sure BMW works like other brands. If you didn’t get a production date when you ordered, you were first waiting for the dealer to get an allocation to you. Only then could your order be placed and getting a build slot. So the total wait time can be production time + waitlist time, and that waitlist time is going to vary from dealer to dealer, depending on how often they get allocations, and where you stand in the waitlist at that dealer. Please correct me if this isn’t correct for BMW.

It’s correct and I posted similar earlier in this thread.

I was able to get in on my dealer's allocation when I ordered the car. I got a production number soon after that. I'm thinking the problem is this is a small market dealership. They don't stock electrics. This is the first i5e40 they've sold. This city has only one public charger.

Are you kidding me? Dealers are Clueless on delivery times. They have a hard enough time just placing an order. I speak from experience.

Thats just not right. I’m not referring to specific timelines but rather when your build would get an allocation and a prod week. After that, it’s mostly out of your dealers hands.

If you’re saying they can’t even tell you when you may be given a build allocation then you are not asking the right people.

Who else besides the dealer can tell you the details of your specific dealer… you can call bmw mothership and they will just tell you to call your dealer.

Think about it. The dealer is a business , just like any other business. They can definitely tell you specifics to their business that are necessary for them to actually run their business…
1) how many orders are in front of you
2) their anticipated monthly allocations, followed up by their actual allocated build slots given to them for that month when they are given out..

The dealer is responsible for their inventory and making a profit from it. They sure as hell know how many cars they are taking in via builds that are then either filled up with custom orders or default dealer builds..

This isn’t true at all unless you have a small time dealer….in which case I wouldn’t even be buying a car from them.

I just heard from dealer. My delay is due to parts availability. He said as the parts become more available my production schedule could be moved up.

Question why not just buy inventory and skip the wait?

You are 100% spot on. I got my dealers last allocation for the quarter for my 550. Now it sits at the port waiting for the ship

This is what my wife wants to do. I prefer to wait to get my exact specs. For example, I can't find any eDrive 40 with B&W sound and luxury seating package.
