I've owned a few... They're pretty nice, but I never hung on to them.

Some pics of my B-Uhr Vintage from a couple years back.

Thanks Feyd,

How would you rate them? Why did you not hold on to them? Replace with something different?

Thanks, last question for you. How did you buy them? Order directly from the company I assume?

That's just a Nav A style watch.. Stowa/IWC/Laco/A. Lange made the original Nav A and Nav B 55mm watches for the German pilots back in the late 30s 40s for the German govt. to a set of standards. So in any respect these are all copies (or homages)... Even your IWC. Furthermore, none of the originals were made as chronographs, so I don't think its fair to draw the correlation that the Steinhart is somehow sub-par because it's a copy.. especially when your next bit of advice is to buy a replica.

I personally wouldn't be caught dead wearing a replica watch... and trust me, if $500 is all you're planning to spend on one, I'd spot you from across the room.

OP: I bought one of them pre-owned and the other direct from Steinhart. If you can find the on the used market, you can typically get a really good deal. I'd start here. www.watchrecon.com

You're funny...you judge me by saying " if you're only willing to spend 500" yet you spent a whoppin 1000 on a third rate( no offense to any owners) watch company I've never heard of....

Btw, you're delusional if you think you can spot a 1:1 rep from across the room when authorize dealers can't tell often.

And a rep that has a swiss valjoux 7750 or ETA mvt is 95% genuine...only ones where it's not are the watch makers that make in house mvts such as JLC, Rolex, a. Lange's...I will never buy from companies like panerais ever again as 90% of their watches just use standard eta and valjoux movements...even some AP's and Hublots uuse off the shelf mvts

Yeah and I have gen jlc's and breitlings and panerais but have reps too and I enjoy wearing the reps more as daily drivers as I don't have worry about scratching them or losing them as they aren't insured....by the way I can't tell the difference when staring at them or feeling the mvt if they have Swiss mvts yet you can tell from across the room...puleeze.

But in the end if you like this watch you should buy it cause nobody is going to wear it for you...I was only bringing up an alternative as manly people don't realize the 1:1 reps for various watches uses the same exact movement as this watch this thread is based on and many high end watches such as AP and IWC and Panerais...and steel and crystal is pretty much the same.

Steinharts are good. They use standard ETAs (and well-decorated ones in their premium line). Being an Omega guy, I've owned two Steinharts and I'd definitely rock them. The only downside is some of them are too heavy for my taste. I like light watches.

I've got $100 rep watches from China that you wouldn't be able to pick out with a loupe much less from across the room. Given the technology today do you really think its that hard to reproduce the details on a watch dial? Sure, if you opened the caseback you'd find a different movement, but in terms of the visible elements forget about it. I will agree with you that $500 reps are for suckers.

I could pick apart your rep in a second.
So you're telling me you can read a serial number from across the room?

Nate, you're not going to win this one.

Gently step away from this and don't ever brag about replica watches again. You might not understand now but maybe some day.

Some of us have watches with skeleton backs. Hard to fake that with a mechanical movement.

Reps have a very wide range in quality...for 100.00 you are getting a quartz pos.

I have bought Asian 7750 and Asian eta 2824 mvts but they are pos's too.

The Asian mvts are unreliable esp the 7750 chrono ones...hence I would only buy reps with genuine Swiss mvts as these are the same mvts many high end watch makers use...it's funny cause many Panerais and Hublots that cost 5-10k use a 7750 off the shelf mvt and dress it up with some engravings and such....never would I buy a gen watch without them making their own in house mvt.

Hence I would buy a gen Jaeger LeCoultre but that's about it since I don't like Rolexes and A. Lange Sohnes out of my budget.

Watches are like diamonds now, there are only like 3 watch companies that own all the brands now...but there is now a push for the higher end watches to make their own mvts cause they know their customers are catching onto their scam.

In the end, get what's you want cause nobody is going to have to wear it for you and everyone has their own set if values, priorities and needs.

Lastly, the stein hart is a decent value as getting any automatic watch with a Swiss 7750 or ETA in it for 800.00 does have some value...a 7750 prob costs 200.00 just for the mvt.

Dang, who knew there was so much to a watch...or that average Joe's knew so much about them?!

How does one go about finding "good" IWC knock offs? I don't care about resale value, or whether it loses a second every month, or if you can spot it's a fake by getting a magnifying glass out. Just want it to look decent on my wrist, tell time, and cost <$250. Thanks!

The only decent reps you can get are for 250 or less are with Asian 7750 and asian eta mvts...can't get Swiss mvt reps for less than 400-500.

You can get a great 1:1 copy of Panerai 243 submersible for 300.00... Can get IWC Aquatimer for 220

PM me for the sites...not sure if I'm suppose to link stuff like this on here

Also, I did to go Steinharts website and most of the watches that I saw are copies of well known watches so it is some way like buying a replica...but it is Swiss made and use Swiss eta mvts so there is something to be said for that....I'm sure QC is better with Steinhart but you will pay for it as watches seem to run between 500-1000.00... Pretty good value really but know that those designs are copies of famous watches.

You may not feel this way, but it also comes off as if you want people to think that you are wearing a nicer watch than you really are. I would never wear a replica because I have no interest in posing like I have something that I don't. If I didn't have the money to buy a nice watch, then I wouldn't try to pretend that I do. I would feel like a fraud walking around with one on my wrist every day, and more importantly my image is not that important. Others will have a different opinion. It's what makes the world go round.

Now I dont own a luxury watch, (someday after kids have done college) but reps are like seeing a really, really cool Lamborghini or Ferrari and then you walk up to it to take photos and realize it has a 3.6l buick engine in it... Booooo! You suck! I'll just keep saving up for the real deal, thanks.

This contributes nothing to this conversation, just my thoughts, and Im waiting for the family to wake up so we can go to Munich... Oh, and that Steinhart looks like a nice watch to my untrained eye.
