MSRP discount for i5? possible?

Is it possible to get BMW i5 ordered at below MSRP? if so, how? Go through brokers?

Share advise. Am interested in an i5.

I ordered through a dealer (SoCal) and they took 1k off MSRP right off the bat. They said this is standard across their lineup. With some negotiation you might get something better.

Similar experience here. Depends on the dealer. Last time we bought a couple years ago our regular (and only in the city) dealer took ~5% off MSRP with no discussion on an ordered X3 (i.e. not off the lot).

I saw the Official Lease deal has a $3500 lease credit + $1550 dealer contribution for i5.

I just confirmed on BMWCAA.org that the iX and i5 are NOT available for vehicle rebates. that's disappointing. Rep I spoke with said maybe next year they may be added but that's not officially announced.

Which dealership? I ordered mine from Crevier and they said we would talk about the price once the car arrived.

Anyone thinking of leasing for the 7500 tax credit and than buying it a month later?

I'm aiming for Crevier or Irvine...not super happy with last experience at Irvine but they are so so so much closer.

Now that you mention it, I am curious about the process of buying out a lease a month later to leverage the $7500. I've always just bought my cars and intend to cash buy the i5 (assuming it feels/drives appropriately) so this is a viable option if there's really no downside...cutting $7500ish off the chunk-o-change is attractive!

You will forfeit the "Acquisition fee" for initiating the lease, as well as pay the buyout fee BMW has recently added to the termination provisions of their leases, but there are no other penalties for early buyout of lease.

You will still gain a ~$6500 savings by leasing and then immediate buyout. No other way to qualify for US EV tax credits on these BMWs. Take whatever you can!

Excellent, appreciate your insight!

Is this plan something to keep under wraps when talking to the dealer about the lease or are they typically cool with this song and dance?

BMW is NOT passing through the rebate on the M60. if you lease the car from them, they are pockets the $7500 100% for themselves.

I’m not sure that is correct. My sales advisor said the credit goes 100 percent to you. I specifically asked him about the buyout and the credit and he said it’s perfectly acceptable.

But since i5 is over $50K, there should be no federal credit available?

The federal credit applies to leases regardless of vehicle price. Dealers have the option to pass this along to customers if they so choose or they can pocket it themselves.

Correct. And my sales advisor said it’s actually not legal for them to keep any of the tax credit. The only way to get around it is if they do a dealer mark up on the car and use the tax credit to off set the markup.

I also ordered from Crevier, they said they want MSRP.

Let’s see what happens once the car comes. Hopefully we can get a bit of a break. That’s why I was thinking of leasing and buying it out.

The option is on the entity that gets the tax break: the bank (BMW FS). They may choose to not pass this credit at all. If they do, it may take a while. Look at the i4 eDrive40. They only started giving the $7,500 Lease Credit this month.

you should keep quiet. they don't get their lease initiation bonus in full if you don't keep the lease/finance agreement past 3 months

So with the lease credits....in other words, any half decent dealer should be giving you $7500 off MSRP off the bat, correct? I have never leased an EV to experience how they work the credits for that.

It’s not the dealership, it’s the finance company. The finance company (vehicle owner) is eligible for a $7500 credit for every ev they purchase. Many are passing through the savings to the leasee. BMW FS is not doing this across the board on all models. BMW will likely not do this on the i5 M60, as it is expected to have the same demand as the i4M50 and not require incentivizing.

For example:
They finally just started passing through the credit on the i7 in July 23, the iX they are providing a $9900 incentive ($1400 above what they are receiving from the feds) as the vehicle is overpriced and they aren’t moving units to the extent they forecasted or would like.

I would expect the credits to come through in some form (partial or full) for the i5 but not at launch.

I don't have i5 discount info, but I HAVE already made an offer and received confirmation to get a 6.5% discount from my dealer of choice here in the SF Bay Area for a 2024 i7 eDrive50 (the 449HP $105,xxx version). This includes everything except mandated government/DMV taxes. I MIGHT add that there are no fewer than SIX (6) BMW dealerships surrounding the Bay, all within 30 miles of me, so perhaps the competition helped.

Remember that the key word in "MSRP" is "Suggested." Beyond that, do the math and know your numbers beforehand -- then make your dealer an offer for a 6% or 7% discount. Be happy with 5% -- a figure from which I'm sure they can still make a reasonable profit for the dealership. I will be pre-ordering in October for a probably January delivery of my i7 (eDrive50).

Enjoy your new EV!!

I have anM60 i5 on order probably being delivered in late October (in production - production date is next Friday 9/8). My dealer has sold me 6 BMWs to date. Any suggestions for how I can get a few dollars off MSRP? I won't lease it because BMW is keeping the $7500 credit for themselves and not sharing.
