Unfortunately, there is no articulating back portion like there was with the G30 comfort seats. I'm definitely disappointed to see that.

I was surprised to see that on the i5 eDrive 40, the description of the luxury seating package now indicates an articulating upper back rest. I have an M60 on order and kinda bummed if we miss out...

It’s always said that, BMW just never cared to change the text to match the G60.

It’s both text and photo. You’d think they would correct it if this isn’t available/included.

Yep, I 100% agree with you. However, this was shown when I was ordering the car too.

So how does the comfort compare to G30 comfort seats? Maybe they changed the fixed upper seat back angle to compensate for no angle adjustment?

Is it possible that the upper back segment adjustment is only available in the infotainment screen and not on the seat itself? I ordered the luxury seating package based on the back adjustment. That is crazy if there is no adjustment when they advertise that as a key feature.

G30’s were far more adjustable since it had the upper movement. Yes, both in their standard position the G60’s feels slightly more “forward” than the G30’s, but nothing major.

I doubt it, there isn’t even a cutout in the middle of the chair like there was on the G30’s.

I guess my ultimate question then is, are you happy you chose the luxury seating package over the normal seats?

Absolutely. I tried the sport seats in a 530i, and while they were decent, I was used to the shape of the comfort seats in my G30 M550i and F10 535i. I noticed it was missing the upper mobility based on videos of the car, so I wasn’t necessarily dissatisfied when the car got delivered without it. In my opinion they also look much more upmarket. Luxury seating pack also came with ventilated seats which I was going to get anyways, and it was the only way to get rear heated seats, so it was a no brainer.

Thanks for the update on the seats. Now if they would only open the ordering for the 550e.

The real comfort seats on the G30 were hands down more comfortable and softer than the these new multifunction seats. This was the biggest let down of the car. I would have paid more for the real comfort seats, like the ones in the G30 or the new 7 series. I've had 6 5 series in the past 18 years and these are the worst seats comfort wise they have ever put in the 5. Makes me want to cross shop MB or Audi for the very first time.

I have the comfort seats in my current G30 and from my brief seat time in the G60 with veganza "luxury seats" I found the G60 seats to be significantly softer and more comfortable than the seats in the G30.

This is something that can be quite subjective I guess.

I agree with you that this is very subjective.

I think the comfort seats with the massaging functionality was a huge selling point for me to get the 5 series and the X5 -- if BMW/BMWNA is not going to offer these options from the 7 series on the 5 or the X5, I will cross shop other brands - something I have not done for ~ 20 years. Bummer (for bimmer).

Also, the current 7 is too big to be a viable alternative...

Those rims look Belt Parkway Certified. The 20 inch rims on my order are going to be fun on the Belt. Hopefully they survive.

Trimming options is part of the plan

BMW wants to provide more differentiation between the 7 and 5 sedans. Desperate to sell more 7s as the traditional customers have died off, or moved to vehicles such as the X7, Range Rover, et al. I guess the thought is if people really want certain features they will upgrade to the 7. The 7 is huge now, and the 5 is as large as the E65 era 7, and many folks don't want to go larger.

From what I understand, MB is offering much of the S class tech, luxury in the new E class. This will offer some former 5 drivers an alternative. Similarly, I believe MB will offer a PHEV Mercedes-AMG E53. BMW dropped plans for the M560e to replace the M550ix. I have a few friends with G30 M550ix cars and they will be skipping the G60 for now. Perhaps hope for LCI to fix this omission and upgrade interior quality?

I personally like BMWs approach here. If you look at a Mercedes from a distance it can be hard to tell if it’s an entry level C class or the S class.

There is no toggle for the start stop. The only way to turn it off is by being in sport mode.

Are Sport Mode settings customizable for suspension, transmission etc? I thought Sport Mode was a part of the adaptive suspension that isn't yet available on the 2024 540ix, even Sport? I apologize for my lack of knowledge here. I ordered through a broker, which is saving me a lot but the downside is that I simply shared a build code.
