Wow I'm pumped to see a D style steering wheel. Been saying for years the BMW wheel is boring. Now it better carry over to the G87.

Interesting, my eye immediately went to 2 details.
1. flat bottom steering wheel 2. seems like BMW, and most other auto makers, are doing away with a conventional shifter / shift knob. I dont dig that startrek looking lever down there.

That's more like it.
Flat bottomed wheel makes no sense what so ever. It's not like the last 35 years I've been driving I've sat in the car and thought , " you know what , I wish the bottom was flat , it would make turning that bit easier" Agree about the touch screen controls, it's bad ergonomics. Where are you're eyes when you are doing this - yes correct. NOT on the road Rant over |

I5 is the electric, but I think 5 series will be still ice+hybrid. Especially for outside of EU.

Will the next 5 series be all electric, combustion engine, or both?

It's about ingress and egress, not steering.

Can people really not get in and out if a car with a round steering wheel?!
You spend 99.999% of time driving the car and remainder getting in and out |

A flat bottom steering wheel doesn't particularly suit the 5 series. This particular one looks straight out of a Nissan Rogue.
No comment on the trend to move to wide, digital clusters with no depth or character.

Just took a look at the new spy shots. Really not a fan of the smaller profile head and tail lights and the look overall seems to be conforming more to other sedans, kind of similar to what MB has done with their current gen sedans. Much less unique IMO.

I think the new interior is ok'ish. It's apparently mostly the same as the iX which I drove the other day.
Steering wheel, I prefer a round one but the D-shape is ok. Steering wheel buttons, I missed being able to turn off the speed assist but otherwise ok'ish. Center console. The drive direction thingy is a bit confusing but ok to use. The buttons around the iDrive wheel are not ok so I hope they fix it to the 5-series. For anyone not knowing they look like touch buttons but are push buttons but when pushing, the whole plate holding all buttons is affected. It works, but very clunky and awful feeling. Having to go into menus to change climate controls is also worthless. Two, three menus in to turn on or adjust seat heating? No way. Ohh... Interior is what any owner should care the most about since that's where you are. |
