I will say, at least BMW lets you manually (kind of) adjust the hidden vents, and does not make you go into a menu like Tesla and the Taycan (beyond frustrating and annoying).
I find the little rollers underneath the vents very easy to use. I did have to point them out to my husband yesterday. He had no idea they were there.

I just took delivery of a 2024 530i in south Florida. My first impression is concern. Sunny and 85 degrees yesterday and it took a long time to cool the cabin with the "auto" setting on the climate control. System performance improved when I cranked up the fan speed, but in my experience the auto setting on other cars would have elevated the fans without additional prompting. And the air vents seem very small. That said, I am just learning about the car....

I have found AUTO 70F and fan intensity to med or high cools the cabin very quickly and the best BMW hvac I have had in a while.

Do you have the fan intensity for AUTO climate set to low or very low? If so, this would explain your results.

Be sure the horizontal light over the "AC" button is lit in the climate settings.

Can you actually put the fan speed to auto adjust?

I don't think you can, but you can tell the car what fan speed to use when set to auto. I have mine set in the middle, but I think I may have to set it up a notch for when the hot summer comes to sunny southern California.

Today, I felt a little warm in the car so I said, "Hey Lulu, I'm too hot" and the car set the temp down about 5 degrees, and also turned on the ventilated seats for me. In Lulu's reply it said it will turn it down so I will cool off quickly, so maybe if I said I'm too "warm" it would have turned it down a fewer number of degrees.

Either way, when it was lowered, I cooled off quite quickly. Yes, I've named my car Lulu.

Have you tried Preconditioning? I’m about to since it’s getting warmer.

I also got these from WeatherTech

I got sunshades for all windows, though the front shield will be used the most.

The A/C was so weak, that you would actually sweat whilst driving.
I can attest to the 2017 X5's having abysmal A/C as here in the Phoenix area with 110+ degree summer days my wife's 35i was a sweat box for at least 15 to 20 minutes and that was with the A/C on "max".

My 2020 M850i is fantastic A/C wise and the wife's 2024 40i LCI is as well. The only thing that irks me is somehow the climate control app on iD7 didn't make it to iD8. It's a thing of beauty as with it on the M850i based on ambient temperatures it either automatically sets the cooling seats engaged or heated seats, arm rest, steering wheel, etc.

On the 40i with iD8.5 no such animal exists and you have to do everything manually via screen touch. Seems like an absolute step backwards when the latest tech can't even do what the previous generation could do regardless of physical buttons on the M850i. Take away the buttons for iD8/8.5 and add insult to injury with no automatic function? Odd.

I don't know if it's model specific or not, but the climate control on iD8.5 definitely turns heated seats and steering wheel and ventilated seats on and off automatically.

Thanks and good to know as just upgraded the wife's X5 LCI via OTA last week. Was holding off as she preferred the widgets of iD8 vs now the pick a primary for the iD screen and then the quick launch bar in the left side. At least I could lock the quick launch bar to one of her preferred widgets, i.e., the clock (plus weather above it) as she's always running late to work.

I crawled through the original iD8 climate control and apps looking for automatic settings for seat cooling/heating to no avail. Will check out the iD8.5 now based on your tip. 👍

I'm in South Florida, always put ceramic tint on windows and clear on windshield to help. That being said, never had issues or needed more than having it set at 69/70 on auto aside from initial getting into car when its 90+ out in my past 5 or 6 various 5 series. The M60 I picked up last week just got tinted and I am still learning the car, but it seems to cool pretty quickly and I couldnt see any issues if you used your app to pre cool the car. Let me rephrase, I am learning how to use the "ventless" vents lol. I like them, just figuring out how to tweak.

Just following up as I did find it under a new "individual" set of controls within the iD8.5 climate control screen. Definitely a step in the right direction but still lacking the capabilities of the iD7 climate control app (seperate from the main climate control iD settings).

For example the iD8.5 version just allows you to select "auto" for the heating vs cooling but no way to select a specific temperature when either kicks in. Assuming that is just an automatic "kick in" if the main climate control settings for the car is either heating or cooling. Also odd for the passenger side it's heating only, i.e., no option for cooling seat whatsoever.

In the iD7 climate control app I can slice and dice the driver vs passenger for both heating/cooling based on outside ambient temperature no what the setting for the car e.g. 70 degrees. For example in the winter with the car set at 70 but only 60 degrees outside the heated seats, arm rest, door rest and steering wheel don't engage. Ambient temperature below 50 degrees and they kick in. Same for the passenger seat but different settings as my wife is always cold. 😜

One upside is I like the 8.5 configuration capability to mix upper body vs lower. This will be great for the wife as she often moves the vents around in the summer as the cold air directly on her makes her cold but the A/C is needed to cool the cabin. So will be playing with the 100+ degree days hit here in Phoenix. 👍

Glad you found it. Not sure what you mean that for the passenger side it’s heating only for the seat. I definitely have customizable settings for the passenger side ventilated seat under individual settings (same options as the driver’s side).

Personally I just set the temperature that I want and leave the system in auto and find myself consistently comfortable similar to the thermostat at home.

I can take some pics and share but on the wife's 40i LCI the passenger seat only has heating. Kept trying to scroll to cooling (like the driver seat) but no such option.

Just watched this video and in it about 9 minutes in the guy even calls out the previous aka iD7 version vs what now is available with iD8.5. Still learning as I'm 100% iD7 literate and iD8 (now iD8.5) is an education game. 👍

As far as I can tell the car only has ventilated seats that will circulate whatever temperature air is in the car at the time it's engaged. So, in the strict sense of the word, the car doesn't have "seat cooling" at all. In the same sense it does have heated ventilated seats insofar as the seat warmers will give the fans warm air to blow.

At least that's my understanding.

Today it was a warmish 55 degrees. My car was set at 72. The heated wheel came on for a short time. I upped the interior temp to 74 and it came back on. It’s using AI to determine when to heat or cool, no need to adjust anything except the cabin temperature.

Correct as no A/C is pumped to the seats. Rather just cooling from a perspective of turning on the seat fans to recirculate the A/C air in the cabin through the seat. Doesn't do much but does help a bit when it's 110+ degrees here in Phoenix during the summer.

Working perfectly in TX. I really like it controls the seat venting automatically, instead of having to press a button on the dash.
