What's the best/safest way to clean the touchscreens?

I assume products like windex are a no-go. But how do you get the oil residue from your fingers off the screen without doing any damage. I know lightly using a microfiber cloth is fine for dust but I don't think it would do much to clean off any kind of residue.

Did you check the cleaning section of the owner’s manual? It recommends a clean dry microfiber cloth or a damp microfiber cloth with standard dish soap.

I’ve got a microfiber cloth that I keep in my center console - mostly for the black gloss control surfaces but I use it on the screen from time to time.

I do wonder if there’s any reason it would be different than how we clean our phones, iPads etc. I often reach for a baby wipe for my iPad screen but that gets way worse than the car.

I think the concern is that if you wipe the screen with anything - including a microfiber cloth - and there's any dirt or grit, you may create small scratches by doing so.

Fair point - maybe a light duster followed by a microfiber cloth is the way to go. But I’ve not had any issues with scratching the screen so far.

I keep a super soft, fluffy microfiber cloth in the driver door pocket, center console and passenger door pocket LOL

The center console drives me INSANE with the smears and smudges and it's hard to get it 100% clean..but I try daily .

I use the iDrive knob 99% of the time, so the screen is usually super clean, but I use the microfiber to just dust the screen.

This ^^ the same cleaner that you use to clean LCD, LED, iPhone and iPad screens. It comes with MF cloth.

I use Adam’s waterless wash sprayed on a soft microfiber on the screen and gloss black areas. The lubricants in it prevent scratching.

BMW website says these cleaning cloths are not compatible with the i5 M60. Huh?

Yeah, I got the same error which doesn’t make sense. I entered a 2023 X5 and was able to order them.

I just use solution and cleaning cloth meant for eyewear with plastic lenses. Gently pre dusting with a microfiber cloth before lightly spraying solution is a good idea if your screen is dusty.

And worth every penny. Super high quality item. It's a $120K vehicle. $16 is a minor investment.

Same here. After getting a small bottle with new glasses I use this one. It works great,

I use a clean and soft microfiber cloth and some pH neutral, ammonia free interior cleaning. I use KochChemie Asc (All Surface Cleaner) which is safe on screens and can basically be used on all interior surfaces. KC works togetehr with major automotive brands like BMW.

If you concern about scratching your screen, you should buy a screen protector. You can find them easily from Amazon.

The curved display is glass and in practice should not be easy to scratch with regular use.
