I drove my car today, and everything was fine. My app is updating range, battery SOC and location. I cannot send any remote commands, nor set a precondition departure timer. Anyone else have a bad app today? App has been non functional for most of the day (and still down).

Do you have the latest versions of the app and iOS on your iPhone?
If so, just turn it off. Reload the app if necessary.

App is updated, most current version. iPhone is updated, most current iOS. Apps & Services in the car are updated.

I've had my i5 about 40 days and I've not had a single departure or command failure (amazingly good), and this morning the app is still 100% dead, like yesterday.

This exact thing happened to my iX50. The app was beyond perfect and then one day, the same behavior as my i5. After a frustrating week, I finally took the iX to the BMW dealer and they found the telematics unit was corrupted. After the repair, my app came back to full functioning. Really hope this is not going to be the case with my new i5.

I had some lag yesterday. I picked up my dog from daycare, took her out of her travel kennel in the back seat. Plugged in the car for charging. Once inside, the app said my rear door was not closed. I went outside, and it was closed and then my app said it was charging. My cell service is spotty, but I use the wi-fi at home.

Some good news, bad news and odd news!

By the time I left for work this morning, My BMW app was still not operating, but it was updating and showing my car was plugged in and charging and the range and SOC% was correct...but no remote services available.

Good: When I got to work (30 miles one way), My BMW app let me send a lock command after parking and then before I walked back to the car a few hours later....My BMW app sent a successful climate command.

Bad: No remote commands working at home, but car updates time, location and charge/charging status.

Odd: While remote commands worked perfectly (and quickly) at work, trying to set a departure time still fails.

They said they first "clear" out and flash the telematics unit, wipe out the current software version and then re-load the software.

The dealer said if this did not bring the app and remote commands back to life, then the next step is to order and wait for a new telematics module from Germany and then make an appt and drop the car off for 1-2 days.

Luckily, in my case, clearing out the telematics module and redoing the software worked for me.

***Update*** 1:50pm PST; BMW app is working at home again.

This has been a two day app outage, cannot explain it, but glad it is up and running again. I use the My BMW app a lot, so stoked it came back to life for me.

Reviving this old thread, sorry!

Friday 3/15/24 and now 3/16...My BMW app is totally dead. Will not update time/range/battery %. I cannot set a precondition time, nor can I send a climate or lock command.

My car has been driven multiple times, and I even keep going out and opening the door to bring the car "alive".

Anyone else experiencing this?

Btw, the app was connecting and working perfectly as of Thursday 3/14/24. Thnx!

Odd. I lost connectivity on Thursday I think (3/14) but it restored when I got back into the car to drive home. It’s irritating if I can’t precondition before a trip. I’ve noticed that happen time to time, but not frequently. I had no issues yesterday (3/16) however, so it doesn’t sound like a system-wide issue.

Thank you. It is very annoying not being able to precondition. Not that bad not being able to check charge or range, or send a basic command....but setting a precondition time is (to me) important. Of course

My BMW app is light years ahead of Audi/Porsche/VW, but I sure wish we could have Tesla level of app reliability and functionality!

This is what happened to me and I thought it was from beta testing. I called the Genius Line. They walked me through a remote software upgrade, then I had to restore my BMW Id. Everything has worked perfectly since then. The guy on the phone knew exactly how to fix it. So, I’m sure other people have had the same issue.

Thank you. I know when I picked up my car on 12/30 it was software current and I do not think a new OTA will come to most of us until May.

I did not know the Genius line could force a software upgrade. If my car is still not working on Monday, I can call. They are closed Sat and Sunday.

When I got to work this morning, my BMW app updated location and range, but the app was not time updated.

sometimes reinstalling the app might help. but up to you

My app is acting glitchy all of a sudden as well today. Remote commands are failing. Remote camera updates appear to wake up the car successfully but always return an error something akin to make sure the vehicle is somewhere with good internet connection. Might be a back end issue on the BMW servers.

I have no idea. He had me go to settings and select it. It ran and did something. Then we redownloaded my account.
