I am a beta tester for MyBMW. It pays a little and I thought it would be fun. I downloaded the test version, found a bug. Got to the part where I remove my vehicle and set it back up. It really messed things up. My car sees my profile, but to use it, I have to rescan the QR code, enter my username and password then download from the cloud. It gives me a warning that if someone else drives, then I will lose my digital key. I haven’t let my husband drive. Next time I get in the car, I have to do the QR code scan/download again to drive. But, my car unlocks when I walk by. Tomorrow I will phone for assistance and I hope I won’t need a complete reset, but I probably will.

It’s through a company called Test Birds. You have to do a demo first and document use cases, etc. Then if they approve you, they will send out tests for features. I refused the one before. You only have a few days and if you can’t commit, then you don’t sign up for that test.

And my app can’t connect to the car, forgot that one, lol.

Something similar (the same?) happened to me today. I approached the car and nothing happened. I tried the physical wallet digital key and, again, the car didn't recognize it. As I had taken the keyfob off my keyring I was fortunate that this happened at home so I went upstairs and grabbed the key fob which, of course, allowed me to get into the car. My phone based digital key seems to have "forgotten" that it was assigned to me and was set to "guest" as far as I can tell. I scanned the QR code on the car's screen a couple of times and finally figured out how to get it back to recognizing that it was me and not "guest." Once this was done all my settings and such were back and working perfectly. I hadn't done anything to the MyBMW app so whatever caused this to happen seems to have occurred without any input from me.

Was this some sort of isolated or system-wide software glitch? Had I not been able to retrieve my keyfob, I have no idea what I would have done.

Any insight into what may have caused this?

I'm not even a beta tester and my BMW app has been acting funny since last week.

I have to scan the QR code every time I get into the car, but my digital key always works. Almost the same, but not quite. There is something bizarre going on for sure.

So I have had my fair share of fun with idrive glitches. "Not connected to server" for days, highway assist not engaging at all, crackling audio, etc.

The "fix" for me was always the same...idrive reboot. The looooong press of the volume knob. You gotta press it and wait till the idrive reboots itself TWICE. So press and hold... screen goes blank and comes back up... keep holding... screen goes blank and comes back up again... and just like that...poof... all my issues were solved lol.

I still prefer the old school non-remote mechanic key to start the engine. There's just something very satisfying to feel the key going into the cylinder and turning it. (okay, so I'm old...)

I used to have a 1996 318i(e36) cabriolet with a key like this. Bought it new and sold it 2 years later(one of the biggest mistakes I ever made)

I got off the phone with BMW Assist. I have to email them a copy of my registration and insurance in order to reconnect my car to my account. Option 2 is to drive to the dealer and have them fix it. I chose option one.

The test I was doing was to remove my vehicle from MyBWM and remap the vehicle. This failed miserably. I’m not sure I will do any testing for that functionality in the future.

[Update] Everything was fine with my digital key today. But the glitch from yesterday convinced me to keep my physical keyfob on my keychain for a while at least.

Yesterday when the phone digital key didn't work, neither did the wallet card.

You should get one automatically. Sometimes it’s in the front of the owner’s manual folder.

I just assumed that my 530i will come with one... but now you have me worried... (my 2023 X1 came with a digital key card like the one in the pic below)

I got one when I picked up my 540xi. I would assume it would be the same for the 530.
