Cool BMW finally made a car almost indistinguishable from a Chevrolet.

Thank you for the pictures/post.
At least in the US I don’t believe the XM is selling very fast when comparing sales through Q2 and the number of available units at dealers. A low volume model shouldn’t have 3-5 available at most dealers as I have seen.

Exactly. My local dealer has three on the lot and it’s a small dealer.

One thing to consider is that many of the photos and videos are taken with wide-angle lenses that can distort proportions, but that’s not how we see them in person. The official press release photos from BMW were probably taken using longer lenses though. It does look better in this frozen(?) grey at this angle.

My RI dealer already bought back two! Both defective electric drivetrains.

Salespeople also have to return commission if a car is a buyback.

Absolutely

It can bechidden very easily behind a decorative plastic panel, but clearly that wasn’t a of interest…

Any occlusions on radar are problematic. You can’t technically see through the grilles. There is interference with the high frequency beams that are sent out.

Feel free to refer to radar operation. Unfortunately as of current state of art you can’t really “hide” the radar without severely impacting its detection accuracy.

Really beyond hideous 👎

I had 2 F10s which were incredible designs and some of the best built cars.

The G30 was also nice design overall.

This G60 doesn’t even look good in Msport guise. Sad times for BMW. Can’t they hire some designers from Porsche.

That's already happened, the E60 looks just as good today as it did 20 years ago. I certainly miss mine.

Don’t hid it- move it in one kidney!

Can’t fit it? Make kidney bigger.

Since I was in Munich for BMW Group’s Preview event, it made total sense to pop by the Welt to check out what might be lurking around their compound and while I was rather saddened to not see the beautiful Z4 Touring, something I was really hoping for, consolation prize was being one of the first few people from my side of the earth to lay eyes on their brand new 5 (and i5).

Unfortunately, on the day of my visit, the Welt was closed off for another event but this lone 5 was parked up outside, albeit in a cordoned-off area. No badging on the rear but with the rear roundel surrounded by chrome instead of blue, it’s not an i5 but a “normal” 5 with the M-Sport exterior. This car REALLY needs the M-Sport aesthetics because I saw one without and the bold styling really didn’t work in base-spec trim.

Since I was in the neighbourhood, I decided to pop into the museum. When I came out, a couple of other cars had lined up next to the brand-new 5er for an interesting size comparison.

I did of course return to the Welt the next day (since it opens super early in the morning) just to see what I might find before my flight back.

And if you [...]
Personally it looks like a hyped up Toyota avalon ! YUCK! The body looks blocky no sexy curves like the E and F chassis! Sorry BMW but this version of the i5/5 series sucks!🤮🤮🤮🤮

Seeing a Honda Accord with stolen BMW kidney grilled.

Even black can’t save this one. The tech underneath the sheet metal is awesome, but boy have they abandoned ship on the styling. That front grille on the M Performance car is a disaster; a sea of gloss with a rectangle in rhe middle. If they were going for ugly…mission accomplished.

Purchase purchase purchase purchase
BMW 5 series sales up 15%

That’s because most now aren’t buying these new BMW’s solely on looks, but for price to performance, tech and nice interiors; and also out of brand loyalty. I still think the new M2 looks odd, especially from the front end and while it’s said to be an amazing performance bargain, I can’t get over its styling shortcomings. Considering a CPO Cayman instead.

Love many things about this new 5 series, but the bland and ordinary exterior styling for a car in this price range is not for me. Well specified, the M variant will be well over $100,000 and for that price, I also want a pretty face.
