I do not believe it is possible with the G60/G61s.

There is supposed to be a software update that will allow the driver to disable this. Unclear what the timelines are for this update but probably in the next month or two.

It's disabled automatically if youare in Sport mode. Also there is an update that is coming that gives youan icon to disable it. There is another thread in this forum dealing with specifically that.

Hi,

there are three options:
- put gearbox in sport mode
- activate sport mode via my modes
- install latest software 07.2024, there is option to deactivate start stop and add shortcut to main screen.

Sorry for polish menu.

Is this software/option also available for the US market?

Yes, I got the software update from the dealer but I'm sure it's coming as an OTA update soon.

Hoping my new order just comes out with 07.2024 or newer as the factory version.

I wonder how BMW handles OS updates? My guess is they treat dealer install as an open beta. Interested to know if they differentiate OTA and factory install default version. Generally speaking companies will have a “factory version” that may lag behind public latest a bit because they know it to be a stable release unlikely to cause first boot problems.

I don't know. I would think that updating to the latest version would be one of the "Dealer Prep" items they take care of before they turn the car over to you. I can understand if you are buying a used one right off the lot, they might not mess with it. But as a Brand-New car on "Delivery Day", it should have the latest update. Otherwise the first time you log in at the dealer, it would say "Update required". And not all new owners have pre-read the manual (Like I am sure a lot of us have while waiting) and know what to do. The first reaction would be to tell the car to install it like you would on a new PC or Smart Phone. Or ask the genius getting them set up to do it. And then you are stuck there until it completes. Or, will they tell you to go home and when you are ready to shut down for the night do the update? What if you screw it up? What if they do it while showing their new ride off to their friends, and the car won't start because it's in the middle of an update? What new owner wants to have to do an unfamiliar update first thing?

It would make sense to me for the dealer to make sure everything is up to date before delivery.

Hi,

in Europe it is an OTA update so no need to visit a dealer.
You just need and app on your mobile to download the new version.

Yup - normally we get OTA updates to your iDrive software in the US too. You’ll get a message through on your myBMW app notifying you that a new version is available to download.

I got an update at the dealer early to address a possible iDrive issue I had - normally they seem to hold the OTA updates back a little until (presumably) they’ve done enough testing. There are different updates for different models seemingly too.

so new updates are installed. Auto start/stop option is now available.
This is so annoying that every time to you start the car its defaults back to ACTIVE!!!
How dumb is this. Please if anyone has a workaround to keep this system OFF would really appreciated

That’s how every vehicle I’ve purchased with ASS deactivation works (an Audi and two Hondas). My assumption was the behavior was a regulatory constraint but I have not bothered to research that hunch.

Just add it to your shortcuts. Make it part of your routine to just turn it off whenever you start the car. That's what I am going to do.

It's already going to be there when you get the 7/2024.40 update.

Is the issue with Auto Stop/Start that it's irritating or is it something in addition to that?

Mostly just annoying and the A/C stops working when in standby mode which is a real bummer in the summer.

The option now to disable this is a wonderful and welcome thing.

I'm thinking I will leave it alone in the winter and turn it off in the summer when it's hot out. Does it affect the heat as well as the AC or is the heat electric? I know in older cars the heat doesn't work until the engine warms up, because they use the engine coolant through the heater coil. But most newer ICE cars have electric heat, at least when the engine is cold. I was thinking the 5er would have electric heat since the system might be the same for ICE and BEV. But then, again the AC is not the same obviously.

That is a good question about the heating and A/C. The BEVs use a heat pump system for both A/C and heating. I'd be surprised if the ICE versions also have a heat pump, but I'm not sure.
