Just saw my 2nd G60 in the wild

It was waiting to turn into a shopping center with its left blinker on. Have to say, it was very, very impressive. Those vertically oriented running lights are very distinctive and they change from bright white to yellow when blinking. The entire front view of the car is quite impressive. It has a real presence which immediately separates it from lesser vehicles.

And to think I was most critical of the front view of the G60. This car has real gravitas.

Seems it’s the rarest car on the road right now! It’s weird, but I’ve also only ever seen one other in the wild….
Where are they all? (This is in UK) might be different elsewhere…?

For 3 months I only counted 1 other G60, then I saw a couple of others in the last month.

I have to date only see two others. Cannot understand why so rare? Our dealer says the new 5er is selling well too!

Someone in my building at work has a G60 now. I saw the grill and the car’s profile a few rows away.

It might be selling well regionally? I was looking at Car Edge today just to check U.S. inventory that they've got listings for the 5 series.

Currently there are (USA Nationwide):
  • 2,856- 2024 BMW 530's for sale. The longest on market being 305 days.
  • 592 - 2024 BMW 540i's for sale. The longest on market being 160 days.
  • 4,306- 2024 BMW i5's for sale. The longest on market 284 days.

I was unable to differentiate i5 vs. i5 M50 on the Car Edge Site.

The point being, from other auto blogs I've watched, BMW's inventory average has typically been 30-45 days on lot. While I can't take the time to determine the mean average value, scrolling through page after page, it does seem to show a significant number sitting on dealer lots for over 100 days.

Is it selling well? I think that's a good question. Given the reviews, and lukewarm reception on the restyle, it would be interesting to see sales figures.

Personally, I quite like the restyle. But I've not followed BMW for years, like many people; I'm not a purest, and am receptive to design changes. I actually don't find the 4 series polarizing either.

Other than those at dealerships, I’ve only seen 3 out in the wild so far (U.K.)

Other than the first time I saw one—which was before they were on sale and I happened to catch a BMW NA rep visiting my dealership—mine is the only one I’ve seen anywhere on the road in Upstate NY.

And mine! Yeah.

When the cars first arrived, BMW Seattle sold everything that came in. There’s a certain number of people who always want the latest model, then it falls off. One of my friends in Florida went to look at an i5 because I love mine so much. She ended up buying the i7. There’s definitely some cross over. People look at the 5, but want the full leather and massaging seats. Maybe they can afford the price difference, but maybe they walk away because it’s not an option on the 5.

Yeah BMW of Southpoint in Durham had no sedans for a while. That was back in December. Now they have more.

After 6 months of ownership, I’ve only seen 2 others on the road. One with its badges removed yesterday (non msport) and a White i5 a couple of weeks ago. It’s awesome to see the outside of the car for once. Definitely stands out from everything else on the road.

I’d say the 9% decrease YoY is not a good sign. That typically doesn’t happen with BMW and Q1 should be a relatively apples to apples comparison given it’s the first full quarter of full production/sales vs 2023 when you could still easily order the prior model since EOP didn’t happen until June. That said, my local dealer is selling all their allocations of the 540i but not the others.

Keep in mind what we're primarily seeing is electric 5-series sales. We are just starting to ramp gas vehicle delivery from what I can tell in the US. That would suggest the YoY compare maybe a little premature.
