You have to do everything via touch screen or I Drive 8.
I hope they dont do that with the G60.

I haven't seen or heard anyone on here or in my daily life give positive feedback on touch screens. It's distracting and unsettling and many people don't want to have finger prints all over their displays. This is from people I know that drive higher end cars like BMW, MB, Lexus , etc. I hope it's a fad.
Car companies have done all sorts of studies and the evidence is that consumers do indeed prefer large touchscreens and it comes from the fact that many people like the interactions they have with their phones (my guess).

Even a guy form BMW that I met at a data science conference one time told me that people want more content and engagement on their iDrive screens - even if they don't use it. They have done studies and experiments with touch and non touch screens and non touch screens lead to lower sales etc…

Also, touch screens are more cost effective for the manufacturers…

Anyway, I don't think we'll see smaller or non touch interfaces any time soon.

My 2 cents worth.

I believe you. I would like to know the size and demographics of the sample size used in the studies. But I do believe they're getting this from somewhere. They're profit driven.

Awful front end design

Who thought that monstrous new grill looks good? G30 looks much better.

Agree!

They look bigger than what I have on my M550 for sure.

SOP, V8 non-M5?

Hi Folks,

a few questions about the G60 info at the beginning of this thread:

* Is SOP really 7/23? For the G30, the presentation was in 10/16, and sales started in 2/17. Does this mean that the G60 is ahead of the normal 7 year schedule? When do you expect it can be bought?

* Regarding engines: The Future Models info suggests there will be a 540i - will that include Europe? There are also mentions of 550e and 560e - but how about a V8, like the G70 760i in the US, will there be a V8 gasoline powered 560i (similar to the current M550i)? Or will the only V8 be the new M5?

If anyone has any thoughts on this or happens to know anything - please let me know. Thanks

Please see the sticky thread on the General BMW forum by member ynguldyn entitled 'Future BMW model information" for more predictions on the G60. It appears there will be no V-8 models, but you can see details in that thread.

Not sure about Germany but for the USA, I believe the 530 and i5 (40 and 50) will be released first. Production is probably 7/23. Then the 540 and 560 will be a year later. And no v8 unless you move up to the M5.

Exactly what I’ve been wondering… maybe they’re delaying to try and push out the last of the G30’s without having to give them away.

I wonder if they have any stats for accident rates between full touchscreen cars and cars with physical controls. I like having the physical controls of the G30. Means I can change settings without taking my eye off the road for too long.

Maybe. They’re certainly running out of other stuff to debut.

I was just speaking with a CA and he was totally unaware of the G60 coming this year and they just had a production type meeting yesterday allegedly educating them on models.

How can this forum know so much more than dealerships ? LOLOLOL

I am going to try and find a good used (2020 or 2021 min year) m550i or m5 to replace my wife's 2018 m550i since the v8 is going away it seems.

Did you just make that up? Jason needs to confirm before anything is trusted on this forum.

question, why would you replace a 2018 with a 2020? Isn't it the exact same thing?

Looks exactly the same, but the 2020 got the updated engine a year before the body upgrades and tech upgrades of the LCI 2021 model.

i5 ship dates?

It sounds like the i5 will be announced in October 2023, does that mean they'll be delivering vehicles by end of year? What is the typical announcement -> delivery timeline like for BMW EVs?
