Latest from the Luton airport car park fire is that a man was arrested over the car park fire where around 1500 cars were destroyed and then let out on bail. It is not clear what he was arrested for but is believed to be the owner of a vehicle that was suspected of self igniting but the supporting video evidence is sketchy and the destroyed vehicles are being removed by crane with no one being allowed into the car park.

Here's a drone vid of the aftermath of the Luton fire disaster and at the end of it you can see a late model 911 cab or Boxter on the right seemingly not fire damaged but on its side against a collapsed wall.

Elon power indeed
https://www.theguardian.com/business...-business-live Banks sitting on $2bn losses after Elon Musk's Twitter takeover - report The banks that helped fund Elon Musk’s takeover of social network Twitter, now renamed X, are sitting on losses of as much as $2bn, the Wall Street Journal has reported. Musk borrowed $13bn (£11bn) to fund the $44bn deal – a huge sum for an individual to take on. Yet the takeover quickly went sour, with Musk at first trying to get out of the deal after the valuation of technology companies plunged amid rising interest rates. He then fired the company’s top leadership, and less than a month later warned Musk said it was not out of the question that the network would go bust. Since then he has struggled with falling advertiser revenues. Usually banks who finance big deals like this would offload the debt to others, walking away with a handsome profit. That has proven much more difficult in the Twitter deal because of the bad timing, so they have hung on to the debt in the hope that its value recovers. The Journal reported: The banks currently expect to take a hit of at least 15%, or roughly $2bn, when they sell the debt, people familiar with the matter said. That would mean hundreds of millions in losses for those holding the largest pieces, which include Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Barclays and MUFG. BNP Paribas, Société Générale and Mizuho were also involved. After holding the debt for a year—an eternity in the corporate-finance world—the banks, which had hoped they could sell it by Labor Day, have recently begun preparations to try to unload at least some of it, the people said. |

Too big to fail? Betting against Musk is a poor bet with all the projects he has going and all the government contracts his companies get. I say that as someone who is not a wild fan of Musk's projects. You got to love a guy who half the world thinks is the savior and the other half thinks he is the anti christ.

In related news:
Officials celebrate Pa.’s two hydrogen hubs but many details remain shrouded in secrecy Oct. 24, 2023 A hydrogen hub doesn’t refer to a single production facility; rather it encompasses all of the infrastructure needed to consume, produce, store, and transport hydrogen and any byproducts. MACH2 will produce predominantly green and pink hydrogen, according to its website. Advocates for aggressive emission reductions see green hydrogen as the gold standard. This process strictly uses electricity from renewables like wind and solar to separate hydrogen from water, thereby creating no emissions and rendering carbon capture unnecessary. Pink hydrogen uses nuclear power. https://www.spotlightpa.org/news/202...nfrastructure/ My read is the battery bus program is literally up in smoke so it time to go with hydrogen to fuel the mass transit system. Again no one taks about the energy to make green energy or in this case "blue hydrogen". How green is blue hydrogen? Far from being low carbon, greenhouse gas emissions from the production of blue hydrogen are quite high, particularly due to the release of fugitive methane. For our default assumptions (3.5% emission rate of methane from natural gas and a 20-year global warming potential), total carbon dioxide equivalent emissions for blue hydrogen are only 9%-12% less than for gray hydrogen. While carbon dioxide emissions are lower, fugitive methane emissions for blue hydrogen are higher than for gray hydrogen because of an increased use of natural gas to power the carbon capture. Perhaps surprisingly, the greenhouse gas footprint of blue hydrogen is more than 20% greater than burning natural gas or coal for heat and some 60% greater than burning diesel oil for heat. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/....1002/ese3.956 Stupid people making stupid laws spending the tax dollars of folks who know better. There will be a reckoning. |

The reckoning for these self proclaimed 'adults' is beginning and it's going to get ugly. Lots of screaming "It was you, not me".
Watch.

You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality. - Ayn Rand (paraphrasing)
"According to the TPPF report … the average model year 2021 EV would cost approximately $48,698 more to own over a 10-year period without the staggering $22 billion in taxpayer-funded handouts that the government provides to electric car manufacturers and owners. The analysis factors in federal fuel efficiency programs, electric grid strain, and direct state and federal subsidies." "One such cost included in the analysis is the “socialized cost” of charging stations. The extra strain on the grid amounts to around $12,00 of the extra $50k, which are “shouldered by utility ratepayers and taxpayers” many of whom, naturally, don’t own a recharge car…" https://www.americanthinker.com/blog...hink_tank.html

So the California DMV has taken the license away from GM Cruise autonomous taxis after a pedestrian was struck and dragged, calling it the "last straw".
Clearly the tech isn't there yet and likely years, maybe decades away. Same goes for the EV. https://driving.ca/auto-news/industr...dstrian-struck |

Things that make you go Hmmmmmm.
Mercedes-Benz shares fall 6% as profit falls; CFO bemoans ‘brutal’ EV pricing Chief Financial Officer Harald Wilhelm described the EV market as a “pretty brutal space,” Reuters reported. It comes as some traditional automakers sell EVs for less than regular combustion-engine cars — despite higher production costs. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/26/merc...-ev-space.html |

The poor woman first got hit by a human-driven car (driver hit and ran) and the woman then flew into the path of the robotaxi. The Cruise EV tried to avoid hitting the woman, failed to do so, then ran over her trying to fail-safe by pulling over to the side of the road as it is programmed to do. Software just can't be written for every scenario in an active driving environment, which is why driverless cars are stupid. Beta testing on the public is stupid. I hope this incident knocks out the entire industry. |
