My Modes
I’ve been reading the manual while my car sits in Quality Check for over a week. In the section regarding My Modes it says that a number of systems can be adjusted (drivetrain, steering, chassis, etc.), but it really doesn’t tell how they change. Can anyone clarify? Just how customizable are these cars and are the adjustments noticeable? Throttle response and shift points seem obvious, but can steering response, brake feel, and suspension softness change?

In my M60, Sport mode provides some crude adjustments - I didn’t quite capture the whole range here, but basically you can adjust in one or two ways, steering, drivetrain, driving dynamics and damper settings

I downloaded a manual using the VIN from a car on a dealer’s inventory website. Wow, BMW manuals are getting worse. There are no actual pictures of idrive screen or instrument cluster views, no illustrations or pictures of what any of the HUD content can be, and the description of the ADAS features (the names for the features) does not match those in the configurator.
Maybe the phone app has better usable information? |

My biggest complaint is that the manual tells you how to navigate to where you can make changes but does not list the possibilities or explain what they do.

This! I definitely noticed this when looking through the manual. Then I started looking at the U-Tube videos. There are some BMW Geniuses on there going through and showing how to set things up.

BeamerView has good content but he's got a weird presentation style and waves his hand around a lot. Get off of my lawn. Chris is more my style.

This is all good info. iDrive 8+ has a reputation for being a bit dense for new or infrequent drivers. The little trick to use the wheel to quickly get to your favorites is probably going to be a lifesaver.

Haha! Too funny. I like them both actually. I don’t understand why Chris always disables comments on his videos though. You can’t ask a question. Perhaps he had bad experiences? He’s also not produced any content in over a year, it seems?

I think he did one a month ago, but output has really slowed down. That said, here's a quote on his channel from 2 weeks ago:
