I was nervous making the switch to the i4M50 but owning a business the move to an EV made financial sense. On the road you don’t notice the M5 being the better handling car, I reckon its size compared to the i4 counteracted the smaller cars extra weight, I feel happy pushing each down a twisty road but I have no doubt if you push that bit harder the M5 will shine way more but you will be minus your license to enjoy it.

Finally there’s the running costs, I know most people will dismiss talking about such things when you are willing to pay £100K on a car but it still needs to be said. I spent about £230-240 per month driving the M5 yet even with electricity costs near its highest the i4 seldom gets above £65 per month because I always charge at home though some areas in the UK get there electricity significantly cheaper than I am paying so the saving could have been even greater.

After two years of driving an EV I am a complete convert 100% which is why it’s an i5M60 next and not running back to another ICE car despite there being many wonderful examples on sale today.

I’ve just had my M60 delivered and changed to Intelligent Octopus Go EV tariff-
7.5pence p/kwh charge from 2330-0530, PLUS with the smart function will still charge outside those hours at 7.5pence when you specify a time and %charge required….

(Bearing in mind I’ve just had a 7kw Pod Point Solo3 fitted at home too…)

Yeah some parts of the UK are very keen, I’m in NIreland so very limited option and not much competition to push the price down, we are paying 17p/Kw at night but no option of charging cheap at any other time, before the Ukrainian War we were paying 9p which was very keen for over here.

I have considered adding batteries so I can top up cheaper at night and then use this to power the home and charge the car when necessary.

Rates here in Northern California are ridiculous at the moment - our utility PG&E is really skewering consumers with rates of $0.40 to $0.50/kWh (likely rising for summer) to cover “infrastructure upgrades” (no doubt they’re needed) while clearing a tidy profit last year. Suffice to say, I don’t know a single person who is a fan of them - although we’re at 100% renewables right now, which is fantastic to see.

Here in Southern California electricity rates are between $0.33/kWh and $0.43/kWh. Thank goodness I have solar panels - they are very well used here where there is lots of sun and not many cloudy days (I live near the edge of a desert).

Interesting car, have to get used to no buttons the M60 seems pretty well rounded, I’ve had F10 and F90 M5’s and M550’s with tunes from Evolve and gotta say this is like a normal car but with a punch instantly, the sounds are interesting too. Found myself having to watch videos on tips and tricks
Called my guy about an IX he had, and ended up giving the lease on my 2023 5 series back and taking this home.
