The other day I pull in to my garage and walk around to open the charge port door and it won’t open. I unlock/lock the door 50 times. Nothing. Try the real key, the digital key…nothing. I started the car and took it for a quick ride around the block and when I pulled back in the port door was unlocked. Figured oh well.

It’s happening again now! The @#$!@# door won’t unlock. Any tips on what I can do?

there should be something in the setting to unlock the charging flap. hopefully it will work for you.

I also read a post on another forum about an i5 user who took delivery and his charging port door stuck shut. It needed a fix at the dealer/replacement. If it’s not obvious from the settings, it’s probably worth a check-in with the dealer.

I've had this issue sometimes, I just locked the door (for the car) and unlocked and the charging door would open.

This happened to me last week. Car was unlocked, parked in our garage. Charger door would not unlock. I locked and unlocked the car with digital key+ and even went and got the actual key fob...charger door would not open. I tried locking and unlocking from inside the car with the door lock buttons....charger door would not open.

Then randomly, the charger door let me push to open it :/ It has not happened again, but could have been an issue if trying to public charge and being critically low.

This finally happened to me today. I tried unlock, lock, toggled settings in the car, walked away, came back, etc. I finally turned on the car and then turned it off. That worked. This time.

It’s crazy right? When it happens there is no way to get the port open! So far it’s happened twice to me.

Happened once to me, I lock and unlocked the car and then it worked. Perhaps they should have made it a mechanical switch accessible from inside the vehicle. Sort of like a lot of cars have to pop open the gas tank cover.

This just happened to me as well. I've only had the car for two days. Tried locking/unlocking several times. Nothing.

Luckily I have 60% right now, so should be ok for a bit. But this is definitely something that will need to be fixed.

Has anyone successfully gotten this addressed at the dealer?

The problem is when the car was in the dealer they could not replicate it!

But it’s definitely a thing. Not sure what the solution is.

Happened again last night. I turned the car on, then off, and it opened. Definitely glitchy.

The same thing happened to me once about 2 weeks ago, but I was able to fix it by simply locking and unlocking the car again.

Happened to me last Friday. Wonder if it is. Coincidence since I did the software update a few days before. Couldn’t open it at all even tried setting the filler door to always in lock. Went back a few hours later and it was working again. I also did the reset by pushing down on the volume button until it reset. Also a few things didn’t work the 2 days later. No CarPlay. Brought it in and they reprogrammed it apparently. Said they could t reproduce the fault.

what happens is that if you have the charging door set to always be unlocked the spring loaded door latch gets sticky and at times does not release the charge door. To fix this I just set it to look when car locks then lock and unlock door a few times and problem is solved. I am going to get some lubricant and put it on the spring loaded part this weekend.

Car wouldn't charge again. Door unlocked but this time kept getting charger cable unlocked message on app. I am using My Tesla HPWC with an electron adaptor. Real PIA. I think this car seems to be finicky. Also occasionally the hand gesture to fast forward to next song doesn't work. It recognizes the gesture but doesn't fast forward.

Is that an app problem more than a car problem? I’ve noticed that sometimes the car will get a little out of sync with the app - for instance last weekend I charged at home and the car stopped charging at the required SOC. It had automatically unlocked the cable so I removed the cable and closed the port. Per the app, the car was still charging and stuck at the last SOC. Annoying but of no functional consequence. I did another small charge after running an errand to reset it and now it’s playing nice again.

I’ve had the “no next track” issue you describe a few times - I think it’s some Bluetooth CarPlay issue from what I can tell. Tends to resolve when I next start the car.

Don't know where the problem is. But i tried leaving my keys and phone out of range and using the key to unlock and went through the vehicle head unit to get it to charge, no luck either.

Had weird CarPlay issues again this morning. Taking my son to school we got in the car, carplay was working normally paired up by the time I put it in drive. Made a stop at a store on way home, no CarPlay. A few hours later went out again, still no CarPlay. Took videos of all these things. Made a call on phone BT worked, but not through CarPlay. Went into the app for CarPlay and my phone was there, proceeded to go through the steps to choose my phone and after about a minute it paired. No other phones paired with the vehicle, and I was alone. Going back to dealer again tomorrow.

Hey bud, I just saw this today. I have not watched the full video yet, but it's about a recall on Lectron adapters and I think you use one so I thought you'd want to see what it's all about. Who knows, maybe it's even related to your issues.

Thanks saw that but I don’t have that one. The adaptor I have is for the Tesla home charger.

I have had the next song hand gestures not work then realized my play list on you tube music was done. If you want to test your charging on a charger with a stock plug for your BMW shoot me a message and you can stop by.

Thanks I thought the same thing about the hand gesture. But it worked with the hard buttons on console. And the loaner they gave me charged no problem. They are trying to sort it out. Just figures it's working fine as soon as I got to the dealership.
