April Stats

A little worse efficiency for me in April. But, I drove a bit more and I honestly can’t resist driving fast and especially leaving muscle cars in the dust.

nice, I got 3.1 in my i5 m60. 0% on efficient mode, mostly in personal mode. I think I got a bit of a lead foot towards the end of the month as I was at 3.3 earlier in the month!

Started the month in Sport 24/7. Switched my habits to Efficiency Mode by the final week. It went from 2.7Kw to 3.1 by the end of the month. So now now im committed to Efficiency / Relax for the majority of my driving.

5,1 l/100km = 46 mpg
6,1 l/100km = 38.5 mpg

Here is my April consumption. It's my first full month of ownership and of course includes 3 launch control starts and a little bit of spirited driving, but largely relaxed personal mode. I have still not tried the Efficiency mode, but maybe one day. :-)

As you know, it's tough to get great efficiency when you live in a hilly area. My house is on a hill and the main freeway near me has large ups and downs and most of my travels away from home are net downhill, and my drives back home are net uphill.

As and example, the three sets of trip data below show the following in this order:
  1. 5.7 mi/kWh - An "efficient" trip from home to the dentist earlier today (net downhill).
  2. 2.8 mi/kWh - The "less efficient" return trip from the dentist to home (net uphill).
  3. 159.3 mi/kWh - My DREAM efficiency. This is the short ride home from the local plaza after picking up some food (only the downhill trip, not the uphill trip to get there). This plaza is further up the hill than my home. If only I could always drive downhill and never back up. LOL

Wow, 3.6 mi/kWh is excellent for an M60. I guess you don't drive on many big hills huh? Nice.

Work is 28miles one way - net downhill on the way there and uphill on the way back. Traffic is such that I’ll enjoy the acceleration when I can but mostly it’s pretty friendly for efficiency I guess.

Here is my monthly state of charge from Recurrent Auto. I have that one 100% charge going to SeaTac airport and back.

Do you get a readout on battery health somewhere?

Not, yet. They have permission from BMW to access this data. I’m not sure that they would allow something that would negate a dealer visit.

Interesting - at some point battery health just has to be part of the end of lease assessment - although I’m not sure it is? It feels deeply ironic that all of the focus at the time of delivery is on wear and tear/door dings etc, yet by far the single biggest value factor is what state the battery is when you turn the car in.

I would hope that after 2-4 years (probably the term of most leases) there is almost no chance the battery has a problem. Especially considering it is under warranty for 8 years. I suppose time will tell with these cars.

Yes - it wasn’t so much a problem just whether there will be meaningful difference between a car that it say, always charged on L3 DCFC to 100% vs an L2 charge between 40% & 70% rountinely - the earlier links might suggest that with identical miles, the first car would be returned with less remaining battery capacity than the second hypothetical scenario.

Local mpg isn't great, but last month >85% highway makes the stats look good.

I’d say it’s unheard of! lol.

I’m nowhere near, although it’s been low teens temp wise here in UK, with some single digit nights.

Hopefully will improve as temps rise….and my right foot lightens up!
(I just love accelerating fast too much lol)

That’s a solid amount of miles….I’ve been averaging 3.4 for the first few months of the year, but I think that’s dominated by my commutes. It’s not flat but I”m not traversing any of the steeper hills around here. deutsch100 has also had some impressive stats. Weather has certainly been helping here in Northern California.

We are supposed to get temps in the 70’s by the end of next week. I should improve, if I can keep the speed down. I tried efficient mode yesterday in traffic. The car was so sluggish. I managed a couple of miles.

I’ve been thinking again about recurrent Scrapula - can you remind me how they work out battery health? It seems that they are working up some kind of algorithm based upon SOC, charging status, vehicle estimated range and odometer, however there’s no direct measure of batter health from what I can tell. Did I get that right?
