i5 - i7 - The "Seats" Will Get You!
Ok, I was at BMW of Catonsville yesterday and I had hope they had an i5 M60 on hand, but they didn't. But! I did get the opportunity to take an i7 50i out for a short run. So, first thing first,...the SEATS (...more specific, the Driver's seat) it is just plain Awesome. And then that new FBSW "Flat-Bottom Steering Wheel"! Good Lord...that thing is sick! What an awesome combo in a BMW.
Just thought I'd say this...

I'm still trying to find a comfortable seating position in my M60 (and I'm starting to wonder if it is possible).
They are barely adjustable to the point that I am questioning if mine are malfunctioning. They seem to go forward and back, up and down and that's it. Build sheet and spec say multi-contour seats, but these are definitely not multi-contour seats. Seems like an almost inconceivable step backwards from my 2021 M550 I traded and our current 2022 X5. |

I have played around with that, RJH. Still seems very limited. Also, the picture in iDrive clearly shows a seat that has the multicontour adjustment—my seat does not.
When I press the horizontal button on the side of the seat up or down in the front it doesn’t seem to do anything, even though the button moves that way. It only seems to do anything if I am pushing the whole thing up or down from the center. Also, the idea of having some adjustments for the seat on the seat and others in iDrive is a design choice I simply cannot make sense of. So far in my experience the seats are the weak spot of the car. |

I had the same issues I finally located the seat adjustments on the the screen - all of a sudden numerous adjustments became possible.

I will play around in iDrive some more.
I still feel mislead about multicontour seats. If you’ve had them—and I’d never ordered without them—you know these aren’t them, |

I went with the M Veganza / Alcantara sport seats and am very comfortable in them. Well for the 10 mile drive to the detailer. I was worried about my fat a** not fitting and I am a big guy at 250 pounds but I fit perfect. Also noticed that switching to sport mode and the lumbar supports do hug you more. Did not expect that to be like in the multi contour seats. They are just not as adjustable as the multi contour, in fact you can not adjust them. Coolest part of the multi contour seats is the electric adjustable head rest.

The i7 seats are phenomenal. I also love all the full leather, the sky lounge roof night light thing, etc. I didn’t love $50k to get those things. I’m comfortable enough in the i5. My husband is 6’2” and I am 5’1” and we both can dial in comfortable positions. But, we don’t drive long distances. If I needed the highway cruiser, I would have sprung for the i7.

Merino Leather question
Isn't the Merino supposed to be "extended" or did they delete that part? Other than the seats, is there leather on the door caps? Dash? Lower part of the dashboard? Just curious.

One short test drive in the i5 M60, and I told our sales guy with a handshake right in the parking lot...let's do it. The i5, to me, really felt so much like a more usable, more approachable and more fun i7! And compared to the dismal seats in the iX, I find the seats in my new i5 to be heaven! I find the standard, non upgraded seats in the base 530i to be remarkably comfortable. An odd, inconsistent adjustment process…never quite the same each time. Found the perfect setting and committed it to memory 1 location.

I think it says extended, but not sure where to. No on doors or dash. There is leather on the center console.

Ok, I tried again in iDrive and found the adjustment for the tilt of the seat….which the movement of the buttons on the seat sure seems like it should accomplish. I think it is a bit better now. Remains to be seen.
Does anyone know what the “Comfort Adjustment’ is that I currently have toggled on? I cannot find anything on it in the online manual and the description in iDrive is as clear as mud. Something about seat depth and better comfort. No discernible difference toggling it on and off. |

Not in the car, but there is another setting that I think does that. The description for this setting is meaningless.

Nope, that's not it and I tried checking the manual to see but saw nothing. I have the sport seats so can not help.

My car has comfort exit. It backs the seat up and widens the bolsters. I don’t believe it lifts the steering wheel, but it backs you up far enough that it doesn’t matter.
