Long Press for Siri

Can anyone confirm this for me? It is happening in my i5 and my wife’s X7. Both brand new.

If I long press the voice assistant button the Siri symbol appears but my audio source volume does not lower. It’s like Siri and the source are at the same level making it hard to hear her.

I’m not talking about the volume adjustment that you can do while she is speaking. On my 2020 X5 long press to Siri would bring her to the audio foreground so you could hear her and be heard clearly.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve not tried that, but if I just ask “Hey, Siri” then it behaves as you describe, probably because of the software in the iPhone takes care of the volume. Are you trying to use Siri on top of a different audio source (e.g. Sirius)?

Yes but this is my 4th BMW with CarPlay and I have had 3 other vehicles with it. On all of them when you activate Siri, no matter how it’s activated, whatever you are listening, regardless of the source, is lowered so you can hear Siri and she can you.

So for instance I’m listening to XM and I ask Siri what the weather is. In my i5 Siri and the XM feed are playing at the exact same volume. If I ask Siri to read a text message to me…She and the audio are at the same exact volume. This was not the behavior in any of my previous BMW’s or other makes with CarPlay. It also is not lowering the source to “listen” to me when I activate Siri.

My current i5 and X7 do not behave this way. I cannot find a setting anywhere to change it.

Does my scenario make sense?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah - I’ve not tried it with the competing audio streams as all my audio is coming from my phone.
