Digital key issue

This morning when I walked up to the car it unlocked and beeped as it normally would but when I got in and tried to start the car it wouldn't start. The digital key card placed in the charging tray worked and allowed me to start the car and get on my way and curiously all remote functions from my phone (lock/unlock, remote start, etc.) worked fine. But walking up to the car and away from the car now does not lock or unlock the doors nor allow me to start the car. When I go into "windows and doors" and then "digital key" it says the main digital key (my phone) is active.

Anyone have any ideas regarding what's going on and how to fix it?

You probably already tried this, but when this happened to me once about a week ago I restarted my phone and everything went back to normal. I don't know why it stopped working, but a phone restart fixed it for me.

Thank you. Believe it or not, that hadn't occurred at the me but it did the trick.
Just reminds me how great technology is...until it isn't. LOL

Great, I'm glad that worked. Technology can be so complicated these days even when it appears to be simple. I'm just glad that reboots can still fix some problems.

Different Challenge - 2nd user

Related question. No problem getting my wife's phone to pair using the digital key. But I can't get my phone to pair - says something about "see your dealer."

Well, that's a problem! Our car was purchased in TX (we're in CA). Any suggestions on how to get a second phone to pair using the digital key?

Any local BMW dealer should be able to do that for you. Just be sure to have both key fobs with you. Alternatively you can call the genius line and they can guide you through the process step by step.
Good luck.

While not a digital key issue per se, we dropped our XM off at out local auto "spa" for a nice wash and detail. We use digital key+, so we left the key card (that we keep in our wallet). This is what we always do, and no problem.

We returned an hour or so later, to find our XM parked in the drop off lane (and blocking other cars). They told us the key card would not work.

We checked and it was deactivated All we can think of is the OTA software update we did during the night, somehow deactivated the key card. So be aware of this.
