Tweaking the B&W system today
First off I completely disabled the Logic 7 surround sound as it added nothing and just muddied up the sound. Then I played around extensively with the equalizer and this is what I found worked best... at least for me. As with all such things YMMV.
Happy driving and listening. Last edited by PsychDoc; 03-08-2024 at 09:21 PM.. |

I have logic 7 on but shifted the fade to the back. That really made it sound better. I am 6 foot 1 so my seat is further back

How much better is that system versus the Harmon Kardon in the 5 series?

Wife has a Harmon Kardon system in her Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. It kicks out the bass really well but the highs in the Bowers system are cleaner and the bass is spot on. I would go with B&W system if you have the option.

The Harmon Kardon is good, but wow is the Bowers and Wilkins so much better. I listened to a classical piece, Rimsky-Korsokov’s Scherazade, on both systems and you clearly hear the difference. Worth the cost.

I’ve been really impressed with the B&W. Not anywhere near what is in the 7 but that’s to be expected for the price difference.

Though I haven't finished putting it though its paces, I think it's fair to say that the B&W system in this car is very capable and, for the upcharge ($900) an option that anyone buying this car would want to get.

So, are there other users of B&W Sound System who can share their settings?
Pro and cons for sourround in which setting? Thank you for your inputs and thoughts. |

I like Logic 7 off. There seems to be more clarity and separation with it off. I also moved the fader back as well. I’ve fiddled with the equalizer with more on the low and high ends. It sounds great with the higher quality Apple Music added to their entire library of music.

I really like the B & W system and think it is well worth the upgrade. I turned Logic7 off and most of my settings were one or two points above the center line. I used a flac file of Pink Floyd's " Shine On You Crazy Diamond" for my settings. |

Off topic, but what is a good source for buying high quality music? Currently I just have my old mp3 library on a thumb drive and it’s OK but I’d like to try some surround sound tracks. Not really interested in a subscription.

Where do you plug in your thumb drive? I plan to copy my music to a thumb drive too, but not sure where the best place is to plug it in.

I have mine plugged into one of the two usb-c ports behind the cupholders. Works perfectly. All my music and album art is there. Just becomes another "audio source."

I think that’s the only place you can plug in a USB drive for music—the others are just power.
I got a small one that is not even visible. Works great. |

I have had B&W in a few cars over the years and each have share a clean well defined and details soundstage. Some other brands push either the lows or the highs but for the most part it seems to be the British brands that tried to deliver a more natural balanced sound.

Yes, those are the only ones that support data. The first time you plug it in, be aware that it will take awhile to index everything. It probably stores all the album art and metadata in the car.

Being honest. This stereo really just isn’t good past the 45% mark, sounds perfect until that point (needed if windows are open doin 40mph and up), then computer raises everything but the real sound. Rented a dodge truck to move some stuff this weekend and it literally kills my last 3 stereos (3 different HK’s ,stock rental bmw stereos and this BW and my brothers i7 where he paid an up charge of I think $4500 or something for it), best stock stereo to date was my beloved individual silver or grey F10 M5 with BO system, with 1400-1600 watts ( you could say watts don’t matter, but speakers are very efficient within the past 10 years( no offense to audiophiles, my older brother is one and so am I)
. I’m just saying what I said and ranting a tad. How’s a enterprise pickup truck going to slam this premium stereo in every way, especially in power and sound? It boggles my mind. Rant is over until I’m feeling it again.

I made some changes you suggested and then I heard Harmony Hall from Vampire Weekend and almost cried it sounded so good.
