I wish the i5 charging port was in the front.

I agree, and I don't even have my car yet. Just seems like it would be more convenient if it was on the driver's side in front of the driver's door. That way, I wouldn't have to walk all the way around to the opposite side/end of the car to plug and unplug. I suspect it is this way because that's where the fuel tank filler is and since the i5 shares it's platform with the ICE models, it saves a little money to leave it in the same spot.

The iX is a pure electric platform, and it’s still in the rear for some reason. Must be a design choice or something.

I know some Audi EV models have charging ports on both sides. That's convenient given the way some charging stations are set up. There is an Electrify America location where I need to park diagonally in one of the stalls for the cable to reach the port. When the complimentary charging period is over, I'll charge at home more and will need to back in to my garage.

I also would like a cool power operated charging door. I mean, even Teslas have that.

Anyone see a review with performance numbers yet? Very curious to see how it compares to the X5 50e which Car and Driver got 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 12.5 seconds at 110 mph. Any guesses what 550e will do with the same powertrain?

Yes. Ours is on the side of the garage. My husband parks his Lightning closest to the charger and his is in the front. Now, we have to stretch the cable to reach my vehicle. I could back in, but then it’s on the wrong side. Same with the EA chargers near me.

I'm actually glad it doesn't have one. Given the issues I've seen with freezing, and the possibility of the motor breaking or not having enough juice, I'd rather open it myself so I can always get to it.

There are some of the annoying EA chargers that have two charges between spaces. If you can't position in the correct way, you might have to wait simply because the cable won't reach.

Had a testdrive in an 550e sedan this weekend. Information and reviews of the G60 550e are very limited as far as i can see.
Very impressive car and engine combination. Car is pretty quick in electric only mode (fast enough to flow with traffic, even on the highway (130km/h = 80mph). Realistic electic range when I picked the car up was around 80km = 50 miles but the battery was not fully charged.

In sport (or any mode with engine available) the car is very quick, BMW says 4.3 seconds to 100kmh, I would not be surprised if its actually quicker than this. I also own an 911 (991.2) so i have some comparison .
Car didn’t have the M sport suspension with anti roll system unfortunately [special option for the hybrid cars, they come standard with adaptive suspension]. Was interested in this (expensive) option but the car drives really well without. Cant feel the high weight.

I drove the sedan but would like to purchase the Touring version which is not available to order yet. Cool thing in our country is that the “pollution” tax on these hybrids is very low which makes this car cheaper to buy than the old G30/31 540(x)i. On those is a “pollution” tax of around €20-30.000.
Dont have the time now to write a "full review", if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

I would have bought that, but it’s not available in the USA yet. I have been without a car since November.

I’m thrilled to have bought the 540xi.

This is part of my problem with a BEV or PHEV 5er. In nearly 3 decades together we have developed a routine (as I'm sure many of you in the same situation recognize). And switching sides of the garage for the easier plug-in for me wouldn't be one of those things readily changed. She likes her side and routine. OK, fair enough. That and the fact that for 4 months we're in our summer place with no easy means of charging for anyone. So I'm really only looking at the 540iX (but not disappointed in this).

BTW @robfen, that Phytonic Blue and 20" wheels looks great.

It's early days but it really is a great car.

EV most of the time but the B58 sounds brilliant when revved out.

Very comfortable , great handling, fast, spacious.

Tech just works and interior lighting is impressive as is the veganza.

Few small annoyances
it's a bit too long and indicator stalks feel a little cheap

Looks have really grown on me as it's an impressive car in the metal.

thanks and I'm having the same issue as the 550e is too long to park at the side of my house so my wife has to remember to change her parking space.
She lasted one day...

Do you have the adapive M suspension option (with active roll control)?

Option is available in the configurator in The Netherlands but the car i drove didn’t have it. To be honest, the car felt perfectly fine without but I’m curious in the experience of someone with this option.

it's an expensive option when available but it would be nice to try!

i collected mine today
definitely not air suspension
I had another discussion with my dealership, who hadn't explained things properly from the start... He referred to Adaptive Suspension Professional as 'air suspension' when in fact it's an electronic valve that holds or releases air from the shock absorber for firmer suspension when cornering (holding air) and softer suspension the rest of the time (releasing air)...
