With this logic, on the ICE side, you'd be driving a RAV4 or something, you know, cheaper parts, cheap to run - you don't care about build quality anyway.

i5 has better build, better comfort, way quieter ride, way better breaks, better suspension, better seats, better tech features, better interior and exterior design. Model S is good if you're an uber driver and/or your car taste isn't sophisticated enough so that you can ignore all the quality related things.
I mean the cars are built to be driven. Driving any BMW sedan is a better experience than driving any Tesla. 330i driver's seat is a better place than Model S Plaid, let alone i5.
Exactly!!

Seems like base spec I5 40 with good seats is the one to go for here. Lighter car, enough performance for day to day, drives better as lighter, better range. Car looks good also in videos vs press photos. I still wanna see it in person of course and interior is the weakest part and nothign to do about this. Has to be tried to see if I like it.

Would steer away from "Dubai Spec" M60 with matte paint and 21in rims, looks awful. And I mean that literally, this is the spec I see in Dubai on most cars when traveling there. Not my thing.

Perhaps it’s uglier than many ICE vehicles, but EVs require different aerodynamics to run efficiently. I’m curious what EV people think looks better than the I5 that isn’t at least $30K more (ie Taycan, Audi GT)?

The Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ionic 5 are both good looking. Not sure how they handle though... I think the i5 is a good compromise if you don't want to spend over 6 figures on the Audi ETron GT or the Taycan.

I find both of those awful looking, as well as the Ionic 6. Seats are not comfortable with poor padding , lots of cheap plastics, even styrofoam under the trunk liner. God awful.

Genesis. The quality is so good and Koreans know how to build cars that attract eyeballs.

Kyle - lots of questions remain around G60 multi-contour seats. In the G30, they are option code 456 and have articulated upper backrest angle adjustment, headrest height adjustment, thigh support adjustment, side bolster adjustment and 4 way lumbar support adjustment ...all of these are electric. The biggest gripe seems to be the G60 multi contour seats, also option code 456 and standard in the US spec i5 M60, don't have the upper backrest angle adjustment...at least not visible in pictures or video. Can you clarify for all of us? I forgot to ask the Welt product specialist a couple weeks ago when I was with him.

BTW, have never seen your videos before but really enjoyed your thorough review of the i5, especially the driving impressions.

Range is important especially if you live in US, especially in north. In subzero temperatures you can not drive these “premium German car” more than 100 miles before you get nervous.
The other thing is having a drive shaft tunnel is an electric car! Why? Yeah because they want to use the same body of their ICE car. An electric car doesn’t need to have a long overhang bonnet and a drive shaft tunnel ( like i7 and i5).
Anyhow, market will talk.
Tesla consumers return in 67%, average luxury brand 46 percent.
I’m enjoying my M2, but driving my tesla when I feel to drive an electric car. This is my second tesla and BMW has to work harder to get even close to tesla, despite the comparable price range. Just look at I4 vs tesla 3 sales numbers.
💯 agree but you are never going to win this battle in the BMW fan boy echo chamber.

We are arrogant and delusional. Tesla will continue to eat BMWs lunch with better volume, better battery tech, and better margins.

This is coming from said fan boy.

I’m not a fan boy as I have never owned a BMW. If I wanted range and more storage, I would buy a Lucid. I can drive down a road and see 5 Teslas waiting at a traffic light. They all look the same, regardless of model and 90% are black or white. I don’t think I could find my car in s grocery store parking lot.

I personally love the i5, but since I am getting my deposit back, I still might consider Lucid.

The black rocker panels are a sad attempt at reducing the i5’s additional height from the raised floor battery compartment. The profile and stance are moving towards the F10 GT… the worst proportioned 5 Series in history.

This is no longer a low, sleek sports sedan. It looks bloated and top heavy. Ironic, given its lower center of gravity.

I noticed on the podcast and YouTube review you mentioned the i5 noise levels.

On the podcast you mentioned that the noice which would be acceptable in an i4 I’d not acceptable on the i5

I know you tested the i4 to a great degree. Would u say the sound levels inside the car is the same between i4/i5?

The car is 200 inches long I think….which is literally 1 inch less than the 8 series Gran Coupe. I’d be curious to see this size in person.

Did any of these reviews do 0-60 testing for the M60?

CarWow did a 0-60 on the i5 M60 and got 3.78 seconds.

Hmm...that seems slow. I want to see what C and D comes up with....their times normally seem to be the quickest when it comes to BMW.

I think BMW actually advertises the m60 at 3.7...so it has to be faster.

Yes, Car and Driver does get a faster 0-60 because they take into account a 1 foot roll out/delay, which is making it seem faster than what it really is. For everyday driving what CarWow did for testing is more indicative of what happens in the real world. Bimmerpost also tested the i5 M60 and it got even slower for 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.

BEV’s in general are impressive because the initial trust is instant but at higher ends they lose momentum faster than an ICE equivalent performer would be, which in most cases the equivalent ICE model keeps building more power at higher ends.

So far I don’t see the big deal in BEV’s. They’re not convinent for recharging due to longer times and charging stations scarcely available, They do not handle as well as an ICE vehicle at higher speeds at cornering limits due to their heavy batteries, rear seat leg/interior room seems less because of the higher floor board where the batteries are in, less trunk room, and the price premium.

Car and Driver said they estimated 3.3. Generally, I use Car and Driver for comparing vehicles as they have that handy stat sheet in each issue. I use acceleration strictly for freeway on ramps or passing in a tight space. For me, an EV is preferable. My husband drives a Lightning which came with an 80amp level 2 charger. We charge at home, except when we are on vacation.

I think 3.3 is about on par with what BMW puts in terms of stock times versus what the real world times. The actual times are normally 0.3-0.5 seconds faster. I believe the i7 tested out this same way (ended up being 0.4 or so faster than advertised BMW times).

I saw a BSM i5 M60 today at the dealership and I thought it looked great. It’s quite large but has a really nice presence in person. I think BSM is probably the best colour for this car as it hides the gloss black trim pieces and makes the car look more coherent styling wise.
