Apple Maps EV charging integration & other options

Hello all, I am a new over of an i5 M60 and so far I have been very happy with the vehicle. I enjoy using the integrated BMW maps with the heads-up display and all the cool Augmented Reality stuff. I just like how it gives me the sense of this vehicle being aware of its location, SoC and status. (I am a previous Tesla Owner.)

So far, in my experience I have used 3 of the possible maps/navigation systems in this car for road trips and commutes and find myself torn on the features and how they integrate with the car.

I commonly use and prefer google maps for my navigation as I feel its satellite view and traffic data along with its ETA algorithms superior. The downside is that there is no vehicle integration and no way of routing via EV or estimates of my SOC.

So then there is Apple Maps, which has such a boring GUI, navigation routers that are "acceptable" but with the added bonus of integration with the BMW heads up display etc.

The BMW NAV system is best integrated with a boring GUI as well, and I find that the route planning is sometimes terrible, often having me take weird back roads for no real reason...

I may settle for Apple Maps for the flexibility and routing. For users of the Apple maps, is there any way to connect our BMW in a way that uses the EV charging routes in the car? If so is there any way to integrate the SoC or car data? I thought that I read Apple/Carplay opening up recently to EV's systems for just that sort of thing. Am I missing anything?

So the BMW actually has a good reason for its routing. It’s easy to see in my area with lots of hills. It is rather intelligent and plots the most efficient route. When I see it had me turn on one street rather another, it’s because there is a larger incline and less efficient. I read that they also look at wind speed and direction. As for the UI, I always have music up in the display and use nav in the HUD.

Hello,

I recently read that Apple Maps EV routing was currently only compatible with Porsche Taycan and Ford Mach-E at the moment. I'm sure BMW support is coming given the close partnership between the two companies, but we're not there yet.

I, too, prefer BMW's own navigation for its integration on all the screens of the car. Sometimes, when a POI is not in BMW's database, I look it up in Apple Maps and use the button to send the address to BMW's navigation. It's nice to have options. We're so spoiled. Thank God.

Please explain the button, within Apple Maps, to send location to BMW. Thanks.

Sure... I'm not near my car now, but just from memory, you look up an address in Apple Maps. Before you click the button to start navigating via Apple Maps, there should be another button that looks like an ellipsis (...). If you click on it, there is an option to "Send to BMW Navigation" or something like that.

Again, I'm trying to remember all of this without being at my car, but it should be easy enough to find.

Find your destination in Apple Maps. Scroll down and press the copy/upload button. You will see apps at the bottom, click MyBMW. That will open the app, then click the map icon on MyBMW.

My example is for a grocery store, but it can be any POI.

Thanks, Scrapula. That is another way to do it using the app on your smartphone. In case it wasn’t clear, I was speaking of doing it in the car while using CarPlay.
