Maybe first totaled G60 in Germany (Hessen), today.

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
There was a heavy crash with a new G60 today in Germany (Gilserberg, Hessen).

The driver of the other car didn't survive the crash (RIP), and the 40 year old bimmer driver was heavily injured. Hope he will get well soon.

That’s awful - RIP to the other driver.

It looks as though the passenger cell was relatively well preserved in the BMW although the driver needed to be rescued with jaws of life seemingly. It seems fortunate that the support struts from the engine bay didn’t end up as javelins through the windshield.

So tragic. RIP to the other person. This shows how amazing our BMWs are. I have been driving BMWs for 30 years, after one saved my life on my Birthday. 7 airbags deployed and my BMW looked like a Boomerang after being hit. But, besides from hearing loss for about a month and now lifetime headaches and some back pain....I am alive!

This is tragic and it just highlights how important it is to drive in a safe vehicle. The 5 series has always gotten superb crash ratings and the current G60 just continues that pattern.

I guess German BMW drivers really are safer... if that totaled G60 crash was the first in Germany.

There have been dozens of totaled G60s in the US. (based on the large number parts auctions for totaled G60s that I've seen so far... most are in Florida, California, Maryland and unsurprisingly, Pennsylvania)

Yes very sad and poor driver will have to live knowing the other driver didn’t make it. Something you are never going to forget.

I did notice that there appears to be intrusion into the passenger space, the dashboard area looks like it has been pushed in maybe 6 inches and the steering wheel is in an odd position (maybe part of recovering person out of the car ?)
So footwell area possibly pushed back aswell, difficult to see
Must have been a high speed

google translate of the article below.

so the person who died was thrown (not wearing seatbelt?) and I deduce the BMW driver was trapped. Goes with the dashboard /footwell being pushed back a few inches.

any accident is sobering.

Gilserberg. A serious traffic accident occurred on Saturday morning on federal highway 3 between Gilserberg and Lischeid (Schwalm-Eder district). For reasons that are still unclear, two vehicles collided head-on. One person died at the scene of the accident and another was seriously injured. The emergency services were presented with a picture of devastation. According to initial findings, a 30-year-old man from Marburg was driving on the B3 towards Gilserberg. A 40-year-old road user from Baunatal came towards him. As a result of the collision, one driver was thrown from his car and another was trapped. First responders looked after the victims until the emergency services and fire brigade arrived and initiated life-sustaining measures. Despite all efforts, the 30-year-old died at the scene of the accident.

The second road user was trapped in his vehicle and had to be rescued from his vehicle by the fire department using hydraulic equipment. After receiving initial treatment from the emergency services, the man was flown to a clinic by rescue helicopter with serious injuries. It was not possible to determine how the accident occurred on site. An expert was commissioned to clarify exactly what happened to the accident. Federal Highway 3 was closed to traffic for several hours during the rescue, recovery and expert work. A total of three ambulances, an emergency doctor, the Christoph-7 rescue helicopter, the Gilserberg and Sebbeterode fire departments and the Schwalmstadt police were on site. Gilserberg's community fire inspector Oliver Neuwirth was in charge of operations. Both cars were totaled. (Mpu)

You can see where they cut away the door pillar on the 5 as well. Honestly looking at the wreck of the other car I’m not sure how survivable that head-on would have been even if the driver hadn’t been ejected. Tragic.

Crazy amount of twisted metal and a tragic loss of a life. Be safe my fellow BMWers. Today on my way to work I was able to see a plane crash land on the Southern State Parkway in Long Island NY at exit 33 east bound lanes. Thankfully no one was killed. 2 people in the plane taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Notice the right wing ripped off, this led to a massive jet fuel spill that had to be cleaned up before the road could be re-opened.

Good Lord, this was a bad one to say the least! Man!,...it's quite amazing that anyone survived this terrible crash!

R.I.P. to the driver that lost his or her life as a result of the head-on collision.

That said, just think about all of the technology behind the safety measures that went off in mere fractions of a second of the collision,...like the "Collision Warning" system (the Red car in the HUD),...and the Instant Audible Beeping,...pre-Braking and Maximum Braking (if any), potentially Evasive Maneuvering by the the Electric Steering, and the crazy Speed of the Airbags deploying, and lastly, the Crumple Zones of both vehicles absorbing as much energy as possible in a final attempt to lessen injuries and save the life of the occupants!

Prayers to all...

I assume the speed may have been over 40mph given that bother full frontal and offset crashes that we see via euro cap and IIHS at that speed don’t show any intrusion into the passenger cell. This has clearly happened though in this case , the footwell and dashboard look to have been moved back a few inches suggesting a higher speed?

Given both cars were traveling in opposing directions - combined speed was very likely >> 40mph
