I was driving in the dark in stop and go traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza and could see my brake lights reflected in the car behind - so I know that it wasn’t a software gimmick on my car. It’s also backed up by this part of the manual (below) - I had the same concern, but am very comfortable that the car is signaling that it’s braking when the deceleration is strong enough. In other words, it doesn’t come on when you’re experiencing the equivalent of engine braking in an ICE but will if there’s something more significant.
Edit: I also pair it with the Auto hold which means the car stops itself completely without need for me to touch the brakes and again, the brake lights illuminate when auto hold is engaged. |

I guess it is because I never let off the accelerator. My manual transmission cars did not illuminate my brake lights when I down shifted to slow the vehicle, either. The video was very informative and I’m going to have to try it out, when I am not stuck in damn meetings all day. I find modulating the accelerator to be much easier than having to move my foot to a different pedal.

You actually don’t need to lift off completely for the brake lights to come on, but you do need to ease up enough to engage sufficient regen.

The live view has been very helpful learning as to when the brake lights come on, and how much slowing down causes that to occur. With stop and go traffic, cars are pretty tightly spaced, and don't want to get rear ended.

Where is the live view setting? I spend a while looking and couldn’t find it.

Here you go - when you have the full screen live view - if you click on “home” it shows up as one of the tiles on the left of the screen - that’s how it works in personal mode anyway
