The mileage per charge is horrendous at only 256 miles. Tesla plaid is 396 miles.

I must admit, I do like the look of the i5 M60. Perhaps I just miss my M550. One thing is for sure, it sure looks a lot better than the new XM. Can’t wait to see the details of the next M5.

I do.

No more rattling VANOS units.
No more HPFP failures
NO MORE OIL LEAKS
No more worn out valve stem seals
No more failed water pumps
No more broken timing chain guides
No more oil pan gasket leaks
No more rod bearing replacements
NO MORE OIL LEAKS
Did I mention no more oil leaks?

For a company that quite literally has 'Motor' as its middle name they sure have had their share of greatest hits over the years. I love my old school BMWs but I happily welcome this change.

Reading these forums, I'd swear there are some people here who would rather go slow but sound fast, than actually go fast.

It isn’t about sounding fast. It is about communicating to the guy turtling in the left lane that there is a sporty car about to drive up his ass and he/she needs to get out of the way.

...LOL... Tesla grossly overestimates their range. I would expect roughly 300 miles of actual range in a Model S at normal highway speed.

BMW tends to sandbag their range estimates. For comparison, my i4 M50 has an EPA range of 227 miles.... I consistently get 240 miles. With the i5 being roughly the same weight and a slightly larger HV pack, I would expect about the same without too much effort. What is intriguing is the max range function that reduces HVAC, etc. I guess that's a liberal Eco Pro mode.... Will be interesting to see some real world numbers once the platform hits the street.

I feel this but idk.. if BMW were to get a normal looking electric car with better steering and just an adequate amount of accelarion like 4 seconds 0-60 it would be sufficient for me.
I don’t even care if the range was less than 200. Make the battery tiny, the weight down low as close as possible and somehow for the love of god bring back hydraulic steering and it would probably be more fun than most of their cars.

What really is annoying about current electric cars is the full focus on matching Tesla with commuter huge electric SUVs for the most part. No music from a smooth engine, no fun shifting, heavy feeling.. but then they just throw instant torque and huge screens and assume we’ll forget about everything else we’re missing? No.

Back to the vroom tho. It’s not the only exciting thing old ICE cars have- but perhaps it’s the main remaining nice thing current ICE BMWs have. Still optimistic we get something like this.

I feel cars are just becoming appliances
For many people , who are not petrolheads, that may be the case and fair enough as they just see it as a car to get from A to B , and has <insert gimmicky gadgets >
No consideration about how it handles, what the steering feel is like , what it sounds like (ok that’s arguably less relevant with an EV)

I guess with a ICE, the engine is a big differentiator between cars and brands, such as bmw online 6 as just one example but with electric motors , well they are all the same or perceived to be all the same ?
