I was under the impression that Canada would get the 540i (it's a popular motorisation for this car here) but now that you mention it I haven't seen any proof of that.

Deho looks like you are in Canada. Is the 540i even available there? Doesn’t appear to be based on the bmw.ca configurator. If not then the choice between 530i and 550e becomes a lot easier if price is not a problem. For me in the US, both should eventually be available but the 550e doesn’t have a clear advantage to me over the 540i. Then again I’m holding onto my G30 for now.

No proof yet that the 540i will be available here in Canada, although I thought it was a given (the US has it and I see more 540i than 530i on the road here).

My dealer still has no info on the 550e and i5 xDrive40 in Canada, and it worries me, since I'll probably go with one of those two if we can get them (the i5 eDrive40 isn't available in Canada either).

I emailed BMW about my question regarding the detuned B58 in the 550e. When they responded, this point was not addressed. However they did say the 550e should be available in the US in spring 2024. Assume it would be similar timing for Canada if it’s not already launched there.

MY for 550e?

Would the 550e be considered a '25? If it launches in Spring, seems reasonable. And BMW often does some random fixes and upgrades a couple times a year. Hopefully some of the cheap feeling switchgear might be upgrades as BMW pressures the suppliers. The 550e is my last hope to move into the G60 (no way going to full EV yet). Otherwise, I'll stick with my G30 M550i.

I wish they would let us know when this spring - or even when the order bank will open....

Hopefully, I can get a delivery by August or so - latest I can extend my current lease.

Wouldn't mind if it were a 2025, but I would guess deals would be few and far between.

Have any 550e been delivered in Europe - looks like they were available for ordering on the websites? Haven't seen any reviews.

Thanks.

You can always extend your lease a couple months

I was interested in the 550e but couldn’t wait that long (and prefer the M themed dash in the M60) so pullled that trigger. My decision there might represent the most expensive font change in history. Haha. Should be here this week….I hope.
interesting... so BMW will only allow lease extension up to 6 months with another BMW on order? when I leased my last Mercedes, the replacement did not arrive until 11 months after my existing lease ended.(due to some production issue with the previous new E-class) MB did not have a problem extending it that long. They even prorated the allowed miles because I was already within a few hundred miles on the existing lease.

51 have been delivered in Sweden so far, they are not very common at dealers. https://www.car.info/en-se/bmw/5-ser...n-g60-56133113

Could that stop sale explain why there aren't any reviews, first drives or hands on of the 550e on the web yet?

I haven’t even seen any on the 540ix and that’s been out for close to a month now.

True. I guess the new 5 series is not as newsworthy now that the big launch is behind us. I see the same thing with the i4 xDrive40; reviews and hands on are rare since it was released after the first wave of models.

Let's keep ourselves updated as soon as we see something :-)

was this during covid? i believe extensions aren't as liberal as they used to be.

2017.. the new W213 E-class..(well, it was new in 2017)

during COVID, two of my family members had leases that were due... but they ended up buying and selling the cars... because the lease-end buyout prices were $5000 and $7600 below the market price. (thanks to the pandemic car shortage)

As my 550e is due soon I was keen on any reviews so for what it's worth, here are my short driving impression from a 550e that was on hold at the dealer:

The B58 makes a lovely sound in sport mode so 540i owners won't be short changed.
Much more present than in the X5 45e for example.
Plenty of power, not a rocket ship off the line but linear and smooth.

In EV mode it is well capable of driving around at a good pace especially in towns.
It was showing 90km in electric and felt like a good EV should smooth and relaxing.

You would be happy to drive in either mode but I could see myself using Sport when I wanted fun and the rest just let the car decide.

The suspension is comfortable but not a magic carpet as you can feel road imperfections but the car is never upset by them. I don't always love the feel of air suspension so this is a very well sorted vehicle for family use.

It's not an M vehicle so it handles as you would expect predictably and it feels rock solid on cornering.

Loads of space in the boot and comfortable rear seats with excellent leg room if the driver is of average height.

Not a huge fan of the modes would prefer comfort, sport, ev mode, etc.

I am trading in an m340i as I need more room but it's nice to have the B58 still and decent ev range. We also have an i4 m50 in the house for blasting around B roads.

Sounds great. Showing 90km range, should be more than 50 miles US?

Thanks for the review.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing the pictures! It looks great!

Did you have the dealer add the tint to the windows or take it elsewhere yourself?
