So what exactly was the explanation of why the Tesla in M5Ricks video caught on fire? What was the model year? Teslas have been around since 2012.

I'm just trying to make sure you guys get all aspects of owning a BMW good or bad.

The mass produced generic ones unlike the 5 series 3 series etc have bern around a lot less longer..re M5ricks video ..isn't it unlikely that Tesla will own up.

I go to sleep at night with a BMW and a Tesla in my garages. Anyone on here besides the Hyundai crew more fearless than me? On a side and unrelated note, does anyone know a place that sells fire extinguishers in bulk?

That similar to the hysteria we heard about the Prius when it came out. No one would work on it. No one would buy it second hand. Battery would give out in two years, etc. I mean, people were losing their sh*t back then, for reals.

No points unless you have one of those hydrogen 7 series that has to gas-off it's hydrogen when parked...

I saw this subaru burning up on the way back from AutoX last year.

A coworker's wife had their car burn down to the ground (non-EV).

Hell, my parents told me that over the weekend a car rammed a gas-truck on the highway in AZ and it all caught fire. Nothing like spraying some fuel over a large area in the desert...

When a EV vehicle or electric bike fire is involved it should be common knowledge that it will do far more damage than a gasoline fire which can be brought under control quickly with foam or water.
EV fires take a long time to put out because of the chemical reaction of the battery internals and will always cause far more risk to property and life.

'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics'.

Wonder just how many Non EV's there are in service vs the number of EV's. You don't think that could effect the ratio of vehicles that burn to the ground? Also wondering which group travels the most miles and the average age for the respective fleets?
Just asking for a friend.

Oh sure, you're going to use common sense to argue.

There are over 1 Billion cars on the road globally, how many are ICE, how many are EV's. Of course ICE cars burn, they have since they were first on the road. But what percentage of car fires are EVs vs ICE and how serious are those fires ?

A quick Google search for EV service centres in Toronto, the 4th largest city in NA and only a handful of places come up that can service EVs.

I thought the car fire that is this thread has finally fizzled out, but guess like an EV fire it just keeps going and going and most fire department don't have the right tools to fight them properly

https://youtu.be/jQZK0z7xYuQ

All cars catch fire, lets just get that out of the way, that's neither a win for ICE nor EV.

I agree that all types of cars can catch fire and I don't know if it's an actual issue with respect to EVs. But the challenge to put these fires out is clearly a concern for Fire Depts.

While an EV fire does take a long time to go out, it doesn't spread like the gasoline truck I was referencing earlier either, so there are issues with gasoline being trucked around everywhere too. Not every EV technology will have that same vulnerability.
