BMW seems to have finally figured out how to do A/C

After two prior 5 series (F10, G30), both with (and I'm being charitable here) anemic A/C systems, I'm happy to report that the G60 seems to be more than adequate here. It was 87 degrees here in NYC today and the car cooled off nicely after about three minutes of driving. The fact that the car automatically turns on the seat ventilation is an extra bonus.
Seems like an effective and well thought out system that [finally] seems up to the task at hand.

Better late than never.

Thanks for the insight. I've never had a car with great air conditioning, which is a pain since I live in Atlanta.

Is the automatic seat ventilation a setting that can be turned off? I love ventilated seats but my spouse does not.

Yes, it's user controlled.

Agree. G60 HVAC is one of the best in any BMW. I think our B8 Alpina had the coldest and strongest, but G60 is so much better than most past and even current BMWs.

For those in really hot or humid areas, I still think Jaguar Land Rover and Ford Lincoln make the best A/C....they would cool a small apartment/flat

Mercedes used to be great, but like with all things Mercedes....not so great anymore.

I have always found Audi, Porsche and VW to have dismal A/C. Just awful.

Maybe a cultural thing? From living in Germany I remember they really seem to like things warm. No ice in soft drinks, stores like ovens in the winter, etc.

maybe they took that feature from Lexus, have a LC that was launched as a 2018 with a feature called climate concierge, where the fan temp/speed, heated/ventilated seats, and heated steering wheel would all coincide with the temperature you set.

Great to know BMW is fixing the AC. My G30 was so-so, my 2017 X5 (F15?) was terrible.

Could be part of it, yes. When I am in Germany with family....omg, they drive me nuts. Cannot have A/C blow on the chest, cannot let it run too long and in the house...no cross drafts from two windows, no sitting too long in a cool or cold room, and bedrooms way too warm for me to comfortably sleep!

Shopping stores, grocery stores, movie theaters, offices....deathly warm for me!

Air conditioner

This is great news if it is true. I am having BMW five since 1987 and my wife has always been complaining about the air condition.

Similar with my wife - she's not fond of the seat ventilation. Like PsychDoc indicated, you can change what the auto feature does for each of the front seats. I took a picture last night when I was in the car so you can see the option.

Get to this screen by pressing the climate control button, then choose Individual Settings on the left. Under Front Passenger, you can see the ventilation option on the bottom right. I set it to OFF so you can see that it's available. If I remember correctly, the other options are LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH and VERY HIGH. I hope that helps!

A/C is not common in German homes or office buildings; and when they do have it, it tends to be mild--much like in German cars.

After many years here, I much prefer it. Rapid changes in temp. are also not particularly healthy.

My F10 had frigid A/C and it was glorious. So far my i5 has kept everything comfortable and the hidden vents seem to work great (unlike other cars with them). We are about to get the “heat dome” in So Cal this weekend so I will see how it performs.

Contrary to your experience, I'm having Major A/C Issues

Anyone with a G60, most especially 540ix, having A/C issues? I took delivery of my 540ix on 3/4/24 that I ordered in Nov 2023, Final Assembly date: Jan 18, 2024. Realized before leaving the dealership on Mar 4 that the A/C was not working. They took it in the shop and told me they did not think the freon (or whatever the refrigerant) was never loaded on the car. They loaded the freon and an hour later I was on my way home. Two months to the day, May 4, I quickly realized the A/C was not working. I called my salesperson in Athens GA but took the car to Birmingham (AL) BMW because I live close by. They determined that the low pressure fitting was not tightened properly, so they tightened it and loaded freon, and kept the car overnight so that they could check and test it the following morning. Later that day I picked up the car. 31 days later, my A/C ain't working, so I called BMW NA today and gave them an earful... Anyone else having A/C issues with a G60??? I'm fearing I got a lemon on my hands. And this my 7th BMW going back to 1987.. It's feeling more like a #13! It seems if the A/C system had some design flaw, there would be many posts re: G60s A/C issues... It must be some issue with who worked assembly the day mine was produced or some defective part they haven't diagnosed?
