Comparing the G30 to the G60
Just a few random thoughts...
Yes, the G60 has clearly made some ill-advised cost cutting decisions in the interior of the G60. Most of these are just irksome, however, and have little or no real impact on the functionality of the vehicle. Interior storage in the G60 is simply awful. The G30 was much, much better thought out. For such a large car it's hard to understand why there's not more storage in the door poscket, glove box, etc. in the G60. Big miss here. The G30 is unquestionably the more attractive, coherent looking vehicle. The steering of the G60 is much lighter than the G30 but it is very precise and, once you get used to the lightness, it's actually a welcome change. The audio in the G60 (B&W) is very good and vastly superior to the base audio in the G30 (I didn't get the upgraded audio in the G30 so I can't really offer an apples to apples comparison here). The ride smoothness and drivetrain refinement of the G60 is in a whole different league from the G30 Much of this is the welcome switch from RFT to regular rubber but it goes beyond that. The B58 engine in the G60 is significantly more powerful and responsive (read- no turbo lag at all) than the version found in the G30 and yet it's significantly more efficient (26 mpg v. 32.2mpg) The technology in the G60, while overwhelming at first, is incredibly well thought out (with some notable exceptions, e.g. seat controls buried in the iDrive menu rather that being accessible from the side of the seat where they should be) and flexible. As I think we can all agree the 4UR interactive ambient lighting is just gorgeous and makes the G60 a pleasant and attractive place to spend time. Shame on BMW for not giving this to buyers of the 530. The veganza seats of the G60 are significantly more comfortable than the Dakota seats of the G30. The G60 feels like it's driving on air while still providing excellent road feel and little body lean. The entire car feels like it was machined out of one billet of metal. The G30 wasn't too shabby in this area, but the G60 is just at a whole other level. Anyway, that's it for now |

One very minor one I'd add: trunk space in the 530e G30 was massively compromised by placement of the battery pack. The G60 has largely solved this and restored proper trunk volume to electrified G60's. Also, rear-axle steering blows my mind on a daily basis, especially in tight-quarters city driving. |

All those points are spot on. Some other observations….(for an i5 in US at least)
On sound systems….The standard HK sound system in the G60 is also way better than the standard G30 sound. That’s probably a better comparison since it’s now the standard stereo. The steering wheel stalks are a huge downgrade on the G60. Veganza seems more comfortable than sensatec and on the G60 you can add ventilated (or luxury package) seat options without needing to add leather like you did previously. The G60’s large curved screens are OLED and really clear and easy to see in sun. The G60 has hidden dash vents while the G30 are more traditional. Also the A/C return vents are on the A-pillar in the G60 instead more out of the line of sight by being on the dash in the G30. The rear air vents in the G60 slant up so the arm rest has a raised rear lip now. Doesn’t the G30 still have a CD player? No physical presets in the G60 also. USB-C ports exclusively in the G60. No padded door panels on the G60. Highway Assist and Parking Assistant are an improved in the G60. No rear door comfort access on the G60. …finally G60 comes as a full EV model. |

Lol. My wife had me outside measuring my driveway last night. she is afraid the 540i won't fit behind her Range Rover Sport. As is common in Southern Spain I have a covered carport with an electric gate, and the vehicles fit in tandem, not side-by side. I think it will fit. Barely. but she will have to make sure she pulls in all the way to the front. It sure is a long vehicle. It's actually longer than the Range Rover by about a foot. I asked her what would I do if it wasn't going to fit? She replied that maybe I could get a smaller car. I said it would probably be an M340i instead then.

Is there still Nappa seats for the G60?
It used to be the standard for the G30 here in Brazil, and the G60 is not. |
