Deciding the i4 replacement
I am replacing my current commuter which is an i4 and it's between the ix m60i and i5 m60i. Are you guys able to get 280-290 miles on the i5 m60i with 20's?

i5 M60 with 20s, could get that high of range with PERFECT weather, lower speeds, preconditioning, no deep throttle starts or runs and maybe spending time in EcoPro mode.
If you want close to 300 real miles (or more), the iX and i7 will give much higher daily range than the i5 and would suit your needs better. |

290miles with 81.2kWh battery would need ~3.6mi/kWh. I’m getting 3.4 with my M60 on 20’s very regularly. Lots of highway miles, not going crazy or super conservative driving style, but that puts me at 276miles range routinely.

You should be able to get 300 miles or more from the i5 eDrive40, but you'll give up the 600 HP for 340 HP and only have rear wheel drive. Depends what you need/want.

It really depends on your weather and the terrain. I live in a cold climate. It’s 41 today and almost May. I also live on a ridge with elevation changes with daily driving. I get about 250-260 miles of range. That’s enough for me. If I go into the office, it’s 70 miles round trip. My car is an i5 M60 with 20”.
On Saturday, we crossed the Cascade mountains. Did some tourist stuff with visiting family. Did a quick 15 minutes charge at Electrify America. Then drove back. We gained 4,000 feet of elevation on each drive, but got a lot of regen back. |

I don’t drive in efficient, mostly personal and I don’t boost the car to do fast sprints either. I do take advantage of the acceleration so I’m not exactly being as efficient as I could. I also live in TX so not dealing with sub freezing temperatures. |

The iX is a good $20-$30k more. Not sure if that makes a difference to you. If I had an extra $30k, I would have moved up to the i7.

You can get a base RWD i7 with no or a few options for less than an iX M60, but an entry level xdrive i7 with no options is already more than an iX M60 fully optioned. Plus the i7 is just soooo big. Too much car for me, but a luxe ride for sure.

I wonder if getting lighter aftermarket wheels would affect the range in a positive manner.

I don't have any real world experience with this, but you might also get more range with a different tire with different rolling resistance (ie. less rolling resistance). However, having said that, I'm sure there's lots of first hand experience out there in more dedicated EV forums.
