I am brand new here and proud to say I ordered a new 540i yesterday. Took an extended test drive with my wife for an overnight test a couple of weeks ago. Test drove other vehicles to be sure of my decision. The 540 was everything I wanted, great responsiveness, excellent power, comfortable to drive. Coming from a 12 yr old Ford Explorer I felt pampered. Now comes the wait. Happy to have found the forum and excited to have my car to me.

I ended up ordering:

540i carbon black metallic
White veganaza interior
Executive package
Luxury package
Sport package with M sport pro, red calipers

Welcome. I found this forum as well to help me decide on my next car. The insights are great and drama is minimal. First new car for me (550e), as my wife has always taken the new car for relability and kids, and I drive less than 3K a year given most of my work is out of town via plane.

Having driven an suv for so long I am happy to get back into a sedan. My kids are older, I don’t have to hail so much junk around, and if we take a road trip we’ve got a minivan to load up in. I drive a fair amount per year so I really gravitate to a nice ride and good seats, which I think I’ve got with the new car.

Good call on the white interior! You are gonna LOVE it!!! Is it a car seat or a byzantine lounger? Corinthian leather has NOTHING on this new material...And from the back it looks like a couch! (a couch that just left a hellcat in the dust) 😍👍

I ordered my 540iX back in June. Just went through Production first week of Sept and is now on it's way to me. Hope to get it sometime in the next couple of weeks. There are a few who had the same production week (36) as me and are still in QC at the factory. Hoe yours goes quickly.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new order! I know how you feel - I came out of a 2003 Toyota Tundra before my i5 and feel ever so pampered now. Love my car and I'm sure you'll love yours too when it arrives!

I too am at an age where I like what I like. I wish my wife just told me, “Get what you want”. Lol.

The conversation went more like this: "Why do you need a new car? Why a BMW 540i? Is it worth the $$ for this car, and for all these options? Are you really going to use them?" And finally the kicker and real reason for her argument: "What about me? When do I get a new Range Rover?"

to which the answers were: "I can't keep falling into, and climbing out of this small Mercedes every day several times a day. It hurts my back and knees." Followed by "Because that's what I want, and we can more than afford for me to get what I want." Also, "Yes, it's worth it to me to get this car, with all these options. I will use them, or not, but I would like the choice, and not to regret it later if I wish I had them, but didn't get them." And to the last, "You will get a new Range Rover when we leave Spain and go back to the States in a couple of years. Because your current one is well cared for, still looks almost like new, has 0 issues, and drives perfectly. Plus I don't want to ship 2 cars, and it will be time to replace yours then. So we will sell it here, and buy a new one when we get back to WA."

THEN she said: "Just get what you want." Lol.

My wife started out much closer to "Get what you want." I think it's because I reminded her that my last vehicle was a 2003 Toyota Tundra, and since then she has enjoyed a new Camry, then a new Honda, and then a new Mazda. When I said it's now my turn, she couldn't really argue.

Technically mine couldn't really either. I had a 98 Ford Explorer which became a 2003 Expedition, which became a 2009 VW CC, which we sold when we came to Spain and became the 2010 Mercedes (Bought in 2019 so not New.)

She had a 1993 325i, which became the Explorer above, when she got a 2002 Jetta, followed by a 1996 Discovery when she got rear ended in the Jetta, which became a 2005 LR3 and then a 2013 Range Rover Sport. Which she still has. So the entire 34 years we have been married, she has pretty much ALWAYS had either the newer car or the considerably more expensive, upscale car. (She still had the LR3 for 4 years when I bought the CC) Because that was always the "Family Car". Mine was always the "Going to work car, or in case of the Expedition "going to work or towing the boat car."

This time it was more of "The opportunity presented itself and it made too much sense to not take advantage of it". I can get it here TAX free. Drive it for a couple of years here, and then ship it to the US as a Used car. (Lower taxes due to depreciation) I put a substantial down payment (half) and it will be paid for before we ship it because selling the Mercedes NOW, when I can still get a decent amount for it (About $9K here) will lower the capital even more. So when she gets her new car, we only have 1 car payment, not 2. The alternative was I keep the Mercedes, sell it for about half of what I can get for it now, and then we would need to get either 2 new cars upon returning to the states, or ship the Range Rover back and keep it for another few years, and buy 1 new car for me. When I told her the 2 options she finally relented and agreed It made sense and I was right. (I asked her for that in writing, or at least if I could record it.) Lol. She said no, and she will never admit it in court.

Super excited to hear from my dealer that I've got a week 48 production. I may actually get the car around Christmas! Earlier than I expected but I guess they had an allocation open and slotted me in.

Congratulations. Week 48 is the last week in November. I hope you DO get it by Christmas. Did they give you an estimated delivery week? I had week 36 Production and week 40 Delivery to Dealer. That's next week. I hope it happens.

No definite delivery week yet, but dealer is optimistic based on schedule that Christmas is feasible. If not, I get it around early January. I can wait. Now I’ve got to look for some good all weather floor mats. Any suggestions?

I’ve ordered all my BMW’s and delivery was usually 4-6 weeks after production finished. The week 48 is when it should be finished production, though starts earlier than that.

I've been happy with the BMW ones, although they are expensive compared to some cheaper general alternatives. At least these fit perfectly and clip down like you'd expect OEM mats to do. Then again, I'm in southern California and we don't get snow or slush, so I can't say how well they would do in heavy snow and rain.

How much would it be all-in for the BMW OE all-weather mats front + rear and the trunk cargo mat? I've had some trouble sleuthing that myself...

Here is what I paid for the front and rear BMW mats back in late March of this year. Shipping was high because they are pretty heavy I guess - the rubber feels sturdy and thick.

BMW also has the ones I ordered, called Floor Liners. They are more like the Weathertech mats that are Laser Cut to match the floor and have a raised lip around them. These are better. Not sure of the part number.
