Engine start stop - G60?

Hi

I've an f10 and on the engine start button there's also a button to switch off the auto engine stop start.

Can this be done on g60? took one for test drive yesterday and the sales guy didn't know if could be done and the function drove me mad so I'd only buy g60 if this can be switched off?

ASS is disabled while in sport mode; otherwise it's on all the time and there's no way to override it. Having said that, I thought it would be a real problem, but it's incredibly smooth, quiet and seamless in action. I don't even know it's on. BMW has done an incredible job with this version of ASS.

I really doubt you'd be at all bothered by it after a day or two of driving.

The only issue I have with Auto Start Stop is that my last ICE I had was a 2018 G-Class, and at longer traffic lights or stopped in traffic, when the engine would cut out...the air conditioning would either go very weak, or actually stopped blowing cold, and would only blow cold when the engine re-started. It was awful in our triple digits.

How does BMW handle this?

Excellent question. While there haven't been any warm days here since I got the car I noticed that when the engine is in standby mode for a bit and there's a drain on the battery (the stereo and lights are on) the engine will start again for a brief period. I'm pretty sure BMW has this figured out. But I'll know for sure as the weather warms up.

Superior software. The one in my Jaguar was seamless as well.

My G05 X5 handles this very well on the Texas heat. It doesn't shut down much to keep the cabin cooler. It does what you mentioned if you choose the "Eco" mode, I guess MB tries to be more conservative.

I just took a long drive for dinner, and I was in a lot of stop and go traffic. Both on Interstate 40 and US Route 70.

The engine would shut off and start up as needed. I felt really comfortable on the drive there and back. It was nice to feel safe taking my foot off the brake with the Auto Hold.

I can’t wait until engine break in is over and take it through its paces.
