Maybe that’s because I’m enamored with my M550 right now and there really won’t be another one. I certainly see the M560e as being a new species and not a continuation of its predecessor in the lineup. If I were still driving the 540 and had no affinity for the (almost) all ICE V8, perhaps I’d look at it differently.

Regardless, it’s nice to not be looking with much bias and just waiting to see if I like it, all on its own.

There is just so much change happening in operating systems, interior methods of utility, interior design, and of course powertrains that it doesn’t seem like much of an evolution, outside of exterior styling.

I won’t be in the market for the G60 anytime soon and will hopefully have my G30 M550 for a long time (beyond daily driving duty). But that’s not as much a function of my judgement on the G60 as it is a function of how much I love what I’ve got.

It seems unpopular to be positive around here, but I honestly think it’s going to pretty awesome and I hope it sells like hotcakes. I want the 5 series to be around for a long long time. It’s a great segment.
Yeh agree
I’m of the same mindset having alos just got a m550
Feels like another bmw rather than a 5 in my head.
I can see this being popular. I can also see it dating the g30 quite quickly because of some quite different philosophies here. The design language has some i7(no surprise really) and xm cues. Ones I’m not not personally a fan of but here it’s ok I guess. The interior will also be of the new generation which was really one of the main reasons I wanted a g30 instead. I just can’t warm to the curved display and cluster yet with its touch controls. I still firmly believe that’s not the appropriate technology for use in a car , at least on the move anyway. No gear knob and a flat bottomed steering wheel , again servers no ergonomic purpose.

That’s just my view and I know others will disagree , and that’s fine.
I suspect this will be a winner, after all it’s a bmw 5 !
So is there anything in here that I would wish on my g30? Well perhaps the level 3 autonomous features buts all I can think of so far until we get all the details

Any remorse about buying my m550, not so far.

Be very interested in the announcement later today
Wonder if they will announce prices or whether that will be later in the year

That blue car (SE spec?) doesn’t look flattering from that angle. The boot (trunk) seems to be quite angled

That grey one on the U.K. Facebook doesn’t have the radar sensor or 360 cameras it would seem
Interesting they’ve taken that shot from low down

This is definitely a new generation of styling . I guess akin to when bangle was in charge.

Something we don't hear much (yet) about is the chassis changes, improvement in handling, steering, suspension, rear wheel steering?, and the expected enhanced driver assistance.

Take that all away and even for a barebones vehicle if it does well on the range (PHEV) and handling/driving dynamics is a bigger step than a mild evolution. Design (exterior and interior) as you rightly said is just one element that first line for marketing.
I think you’re probably right. Ironically, maybe, I just recently purchased my pre LCI G30. When I was looking to get an M550 I did a lot of research between the 2020 and 2021 years. The reasons I zeroed in on the 2020 go much beyond just the exterior styling. But that was a big factor. Two reasons: First because I prefer the front end of the pre LCI. Not a criticism by any means of the LCI version, just a preference between two positives. Second, overall I think the pre-LCI has a bit more subtlety and classic styling. Not in the sense that it will be a classic car. Just in the sense that I believe it will age well. More conservative designs tend to do that. So, while I agree the G60 will further age the pre-LCI G30, I still believe it will continue to age well and be an appealing car. The LCI is wonderful and very attractive, so no one should take that as a knock on it.

I’m very interested in the new features and capabilities that you mentioned. Particularly driver assist features. I’ve had those on both my G30 cars and enjoy them in traffic jams or on longer road trips. Though I use it less with the M550. Too fun to hand over the reigns to the computer!

I don’t have much expectation for largely improved handling but could be pleasantly surprised.

Interior looks as expected, need to see it in a different color.

Well the interior was my concern and this confirms it

Let's wait for the M5.....this normal 5 series follows what it's happening worldwide in the automotive industry: soul_less vehicles.

BMW is loosing everything that appealed me in the past.

As said. let's wait for the M5...maybe it could be decent and better than the regular serie. As the M3/4 are compared to their regular and Msport versions ones.

Yeh it’s not working for me
Looks like they threw away their flexi curve and replace it with a ruler in places
Those creases on the side look a bit out of place

Aware I’m moaning a bit here!
40 minutes to go

a car like this i think it will look better in real person. looks like it pops out from all angles.

interesting, looks like they gave the i5 e40 a traditional grill instead of the electric grill?

I agree but they use the gloss black to hide the added height since the platform is used for ev and ice vehicles to allow for batteries in the floor.

It’s super lazy and looks old already.

could have extended the black into the front with a lip spoiler, but probably makes the car too low.

Why does the crease decide to go down on the rear door rather than carry on backwards and slightly up? Looks disjointed to me
Hofmeister kink, personally not liking the way they’ve done that

Oh oh moaning again…..

The m Madge on the side looks out of place there on a plain wing/ fender
