2023 M550i or the upcoming rumored M560e

Hi all,
I need help in deciding if I have to wait out until they release the newer version of the 5 series with the supposedly inline 6 cylinder with a plug in powered motor (M560e) or should I get the last of the V8 on the current G30 series.?

Are the current M550i with N63 engines reliable if you want to own a V8.?

Does it matter if it’s a V8 with 523HP or a inline 6 with electric motor setup and producing close to ~530HP in terms of driving, comfort and performance.?

Please help me understand so that I can place the last of G30’s if needed to act soon.

If you want a new g30 m550 you need to speak a dealer (or several) NOW as they are literally right at the end of production so you will probably need to find one with an allocation.
I’ll warn you that you may be already too late.

If you want a new one in stock you may still have some luck

Whatever don’t hesitate

I’m in the U.K. and I only just got mine, they were discontinued ihere just before Christmas and I got one only because it was an allocation that already existed for bmw rather than a customer

I chose the g30 as there were features of the g60 that I don’t like.

So it depends upon what you want and if you are happy with you know about the g60

If going for the g60 I’d personally wait a year as I suspect there will be more options by then as regards transmissions and optional extras.
Example when I bought my g30 back in 2017 I got it after the first 6 months as the Alcantara headlining was only available after the first 6 months. So you might find some options not there initially as bmw ramp up production.

Good luck deciding

Also, the M560e will also not come out this year. I believe it will be 7/2024.

We upgraded my wife's 2018 m550i to a CPO 2022 m550i (warranty until 2027) to enjoy the v8 a little longer. If we like the m560e we can make the decision in July of 2024 +. We are on a "list" for one but also will consider the m5 touring with SOP 11/2024. IMO, find an m550i (new or used) and enjoy. You can revisit the G60 once they arrive stateside the end of 2024.

As others have said before me if you want to configure a G30 your time may already be up. Seems to be quite a few brand new M550i and slighty used ones in the lots of dealers in my province though.

As for which one is better for you that is hard to say since the G60 wasn't fully revealed and reviewed yet.

If you didn't drive a BMW PHEV before let me tell you that though that you are in for a threat; the conjunction of the electric motor with the ICE gives kind of the best of both worlds. Instant torque, silent comfort when needed + the range and character of the ICE for long distances or when you feel like it.

I myself will probably be tempted by an i5 or a 550e when they are available.

I face a related quandary:

I currently have a 2021 M550, which is by far the best car I’ve ever owned (it replaced a 2018 540 which was awesome, and we are also on our third X5. I’ve owned many other non-BMW cars over the years and these have all easily been among my favorites).

I’d get another M550 in an instant, but my lease is up in October. Timing that has left me without the option of getting another of this generation and, based on when it seems the G60 “successor” to the M550 (the M560E) without being able to replace the M550 with that, either.

Not sure what I’ll do. I know extending my lease is a potential option, but I don’t think far enough out for an M560E to land.

I would either find a remaining allocation and order one, expecting the car mid summer and deal with your remaining 3 months then (perhaps the dealer will buy your lease out…) or hope that there’s a remaining car in the Sept/Oct time frame. I think the key is to be proactive (aka, speak to the CA now).

OR just buy your current M550 out.

Tried speaking to my advisor—I was going to try to order a G30 M550 and do just what you suggested, but he thought it would be crazy disadvantageous. They also don’t seem to have any info on what will be available when on the G60 side yet. I figured I’d re-engage after the official announcement on 5/23.

Buy out your current car, then order/build 2nd model year production MY2025 of the 560.

I m in the same boat, did not realize EOP for G30 was much sooner than expected 06/23.
