Your car must have Highway Assistance Professional package at the time of build. Do you know if you ordered that option?

Have you reviewed your manual about this feature? It's all explained there. If you have the right equipment, you can only do hands free ("assist plus") on certain controlled access freeways when the car offers you the option on the display. It will say "assist plus ready." You can then take your hands off the wheel, and two green lights will illuminate on the wheel.

Yes, in drive assist plus mode up to 85mph / 130kmh in certain markets, eg Germany and USA. You must buy the Highway Assistant feature for it to be active.

I tried the hands free feature for the first time yesterday and was very impressed with it. I had about a 25 mile freeway trip in mixed traffic, and once I turned it on, it got me there the whole way. It kept it's distance to the vehicles in front properly, it even stopped and continued on it's own when traffic stopped momentarily, changed lanes when I signaled and even changed lanes on its own once or twice to get around slower traffic.

I figured it would be like a "fancy" cruise control, but didn't realize it had the ability to stop the car and continue on it's own. I was very impressed with the feature.

Forgot to add: the only thing it didn't do for me was to take the correct freeway exit, even though I had the destination in the BMW nav app. It indicated to take the exit, but I didn't intervene because I wanted to see what it would do. I ended up having to take the next exit manually, but at least it did continue to drive itself until I took over.

Yeah, I have been very impressed by it. I drove from Dallas to Austin and once on the highway only had to intervene once. The only issue I had was that my non-polarized sunglasses were too dark and it couldn't see my eyes. I bought new glasses and all is good.

It will not take exits automatically but will rather suggest a lane change, etc. to make the exit.

Mine actually knows when to get out of the limited access toll lanes in time for my exit. I thought that was impressive.

Regarding sunglasses, when I put mine on I can't see the head up display very well at all, so I took them off. Any suggestions for the type of sunglasses to use which both lets you see the HUD well, and also doesn't mess with the eye tracking stuff? Polarized? Non Polarized? Certain color better than others? etc.

One of the best tech features of the G60 !

It almost makes me forget about the subpar materials used in this car

I tried mine on the way home from Pinehurst, NC. Wow! It handled US Route 1 perfectly. Braking when needed and passing too.

Agreed, I was very impressed. Then again, my old truck's cruise control was just the basic set it to a speed and turn it on or off, with manual speed adjustments allowed (the typical cruise control from 2003). So, the bar is pretty low for me to be impressed.

Same for me Skyking! I want to test this and the auto drive in the daytime with my polarized prescription sunglasses. It will have to wait until Friday as it will be pouring rain the next two days.

I used this for the first time last night (after I realized I needed to turn on the options to suggest lane changes based on route, and to confirm lane changes with a look). It works shockingly well. Even when changing highways on a longer trip. Amazed.

I did this test on the Triangle Expressway and auto drive worked perfectly. Lane change on signal activation and passing was impressive. Also, I had no issues with my polarized prescription sunglasses and the auto drive system.

Note: the HUD is a little dark with sunglasses on, but I can still see what’s displayed

Oh the Manage Attachments won’t let me add a photo. I’ll keep trying

Non polarized. I never had an issue with the wife's X5 HUD with my Oakley black iridium polarized sunglasses but when I got my M850i the HUD was nearly invisible even on full blast (assumed the drastic difference in windshield slope). Picked up a pair with their Prizm Black (live in the M850i) lenses and perfect. In fact they handle the glare equal to the black iridium polarized lenses (still have them and live in the X5).

I think you mean DAP aka Driving Assistance Professional. Highway Assist is just DAP+ on 2024 iD8 vehicles up to 85 MPH on designated freeways. At least that's how it works on my wife's 2024 X5 LCI. Technically it is no different than the DAP+ on my 2020 M850i outside of for it one can only do up to 40MPH in DAP+ and it only kicks in when in stop/go traffic on all freeways.

With DAP+ on a 2024 iD8/8.5 when on a supported freeway it just allows you to toggle on + (plus) and set the speed up to 85MPH. Just an option available on the mode button but I read that has changed with the 03/2024 (still on 07/2023.42) so when "plus" is available all one has to do is take their hands off the wheel and it will engage with the green lights on the steering wheel.
