Picked up car from detailing shop - All settings were erased!

Hi, my wife and I both had our settings erased from our BMW IDs in the car. Back to default. How would the car detailer have done this by accident?

Probably leaning on the idrive controller while detailing the interior.

Should put it in valet mode when dropping off for this type of work.

Could that have happened if the 12 V battery was somehow disconnected for a while?

Aren't the profiles also stored in the cloud? Could you see if they are still there? If not, maybe a bmw problem, if so, then a car issue you could ask the dealer about.

It sounds like they may have deleted the profiles on purpose because they know then you would not be able to track them if you looked for your car's location on your phone while they had it. I'm sure they are quite aware of how to do this, and am sure have done so in the past. Try this. Get some Apple I tags, or Samsung ones if you have one. Put one in the trunk and track it when you leave the car next time. I used this method last year when I suspected my dog/house sitter was taking my wife's Range Rover out for spins when we were on travel instead of using her own car. I got suspicious when it just seemed like it had more gas in it than we left it with. I found out it was true and I had visual locator records of her driving it all over town. He house, her Mom's the mall, out at night with her friends, etc. We got back and showed her the records and she said why is it a problem? I said first, you have no permission, so that's theft. Second, you are not insured for it, so if you got in an accident, in Spain it would leave us liable because it's OUR car, and she could say we gave her permission since she had the keys where she could get them. Plus a lot of times (And I hate to say it, but true) here it's Guilty by being American. So the local is always given the benefit of the doubt. I fired her on the spot and she refused when I tried to pay her. I haven't used her since.

Maybe they disconnect the battery as a general practice so they don’t fry something when spraying stuff?
