Recall notice?
I received a safety recall notice for the integrated brake module in my i5. It looks like the recall affects many different models, from sedans to SAVs. However, there does not seem to be any timeline specified for addressing the issue.
Does anyone have more information on this? Is this why deliveries are paused? And what is the frequency of occurrence for this issue? It looks like the car is still useable until and unless an error comes up - but of course, this is a less than ideal situation especially going into winter. In my case, I am having a great driving experience - in fact, one of the best I've had in a very long time, and I'm keen to continue with this level of satisfaction... Thanks in advance! |

There’s a whole long thread on this here: https://g60.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2125170
My i5 is also affected, but I’ve had no evidence that there’s a dealer that can do anything yet. Under the assumption that the number of affected vehicles is much smaller than the size of the recall, I’m going about my business same as you. |

I received two official letters today in the mail from BMW about the two recalls on my vehicle. They are only the official federally required notices indicating that the safety recalls exist and that there is still no remedy for the IBS recall, but there is a remedy available for the Hands-On-Off Detection recall.
I guess I'll continue waiting until my local dealer can address both recalls before I bring it in, and just continue driving and enjoying the car like I normally would. Sorry for all you guys that are experiencing delays with delivery. Hopefully, with the recent movement that some have seen, this will all be behind us soon.

Here it is. It has to do with the steering wheel's detection of your hands being on the wheel or not. Fortunately the solution appears to simply be making sure the grounding wire is attached securely.

Whew, it doesn’t seem to require a part. Someone must have been asleep during the “Let’s show you how to put the steering wheel on” training videos.
