540 is at the port
My 540 arrived at the port early last week, I know the status dosen't change untill the ship leaves the port. I see there's 5 car carriers in Bremerhaven at the moment any chance anyone knows which ship it will be or if BMW uses certain ships and or lines? I know we're at least 6 weeks to arrival. I'm in NY so I would think it would dock in Jersey or Baltimore on this side of the Atlantic.

You can find out what ship it's on by calling the BMW Genius line and asking.

I too arrived at the port July 8. Mine is a 2025. This is my 14th BMW. I have ordered 13 and waited through the process. You can't find what boat the car is on until it leaves Bremerhaven

When did you place your order with your dealership? I placed mine on July 1st.
That's wild that you're getting it so soon, as I didn't even think production was slated to begin until later this month? I thought SOP was 7/24. Maybe the factory didn't really need to reconfigure anything significantly, as there's no appreciable difference between MY24 or MY24 that would be visible to consumers. I've often wondered if manufacturers make subtle changes to parts (e.g. electronic, mechanical or otherwise) as they get feedback and statistics about problems. |

My dealer had an allocation that was going into production. He was able to change the car to my specifications. From the time I ordered the car to completion was 2 21/2 weeks. I was lucky

From what I remember once the carrier leaves Bremerhaven it takes 2 weeks to hit the Port of Jersey/New York. Its stops at Southhampton, Halifax, then NJ/NY. Then it's a crap shoot when it gets to the dealer. My experience is that the last part of the trip is only a couple of days

Once mine was on a ship I think it was 10 days to the port VPC in NJ and then just a day or two out to the dealership.

I think, from what I've read the VPC time can be variable. It depends on whether or not your specific vehicle has any damage from transit. If it does then they will correct whatever the defects are with the vehicle, prior to shipping it to your dealer.
This kind of freaked me out when I read it, but I did find an older video of these facilities, and they're massive. They have high tech paint booths, and highly trained employees. In fact, the video was saying (it was an older one so things may have changed) BMW dealer technicians often go to these locations to learn to do major repairs in a training program. They called it the "University". I believe if the total damage done is equal to 3% of MSRP, they're required to notify the dealer, and subsequently yourself in a disclosure. |

I think it's all about allocations. From what I was told by my Broker, They didn't open MY 2025 ordering until June. He was waiting for it to open for me, and checked daily so he could order my car. Yours may have taken your order in April, but they could not have filled out the production request until June or it would have been for a 2024 car. At the top left of your order that will come back once the order is accepted by BMW for production, it will have a code which is 3 numbers and a letter. Mine is 255D. The first 2 digits are production MY, and means Model year 2025. If it starts with 24 it is a MY 2024. If your dealer doesn't have an open allocation, they can still take your order and send it in once a slot opens for them. Or they can try to trade with another dealer for an allocation slot. I used a Broker and he had to request an allocation when I placed my order in June, and got a September (Week 36) allocation for production. I don't know exactly how the BMW factory distributes them to dealers. I assume that sometimes they use them up for Dealer SPEC vehicles optioned however they feel they can sell, and don't leave any for special orders. Then if they have a special order come in, they look at their upcoming production schedule for the vehicles they have ordered and submit a change request for one of them to yours. I think it's a use-or lose situation. If they don't use all their allocations, the next MY they are shorted by that amount. Maybe call around to different dealers and see if they have any left for MY 2025. Of course I could be completely wrong about all of this. It just makes sense. Are you sure they didn't lose or forget your order on someone's desk after sitting there for a couple of months waiting for the 2025's to become available?
