It also turns the car into a wifi hotspot. Could be beneficial for those who might have kids and want to stream to iPads or other devices.

+1

I don't see any value for 20 bucks /month. Are you spending 6-8 hours in the car daily that you need to broadcast your Zoom/Webex/Youtube/Netflix?

Unless you are on a 1980 flip phone, all modern cell phones let you make a hotspot FREE (the keyword is FREE), even if your hardware is carrier-locked.

Doesn't make sense at all with this eSIM nonsense

It's another way for these carriers to get your money, and feel free to donate to them or St. Jude to make it worthwhile.

With AT&T it depends on your plan if you have personal hotspot capability or not. And the data might be limited whereas ESIM is unlimited. Also, I’m not sure if you can broadcast a personal hotspot if you’re connected to the car via wireless Apple Car Play. Now that BMW has rolled out a separate video streaming app through TiVo that doesn’t require ESIM I agree that it has a bit less value.

It’s worth it for me because my husband pays the cell phone bill. I am responsible for the car payments, so he should contribute something.

When I try to set it up in the myBMW app for T-Mobile, it tries to take me to a web page but the page always errors out with a "This site can't be reached" message.

When the myBMW app asks me to enter my phone number, is that my primary cell phone number, or is it the number found in the settings in the car?

Your primary cell phone number for the carrier you’re selecting.

How long ago did you activate it in the app (roughly)? Just for fun, I pretended I had an AT&T and Verizon account, and when I select both those options it takes me to the AT&T and Verizon web pages to continue. But for some reason, I still get the same, "This site can't be reached" error message when I select T-Mobile.

Perhaps I will have to call T-Mobile and inquire (not looking forward to that).

UPDATE:
Ok, I figured out how to get past the error message. I had to disconnect my phone from my home Wifi (disable Wifi) and just use my phone's 5G service. Then, it found and went to the web page fine. Odd, since I have T-Mobile home internet too so you would think that T-Mobile home internet wouldn't have an issue getting to a T-Mobile site. Sigh, oh well, that is the way of modern technology sometimes. At least I'm able to make some progress now.

I wish they would come up with a way to activate it on a Verizon business account. Apparently you can’t, which just seems dumb.
