Interesting. Basically the same options as 2024 except that it comes with standard M sports package.

But I want a sunroof, not the skylounge glass roof.

Bad move BMW not keeping it available.

Yes, hadn’t noticed that. No sunroof option is a big omission.

Doesn’t affect me, my m340 comes with one and I never use it.

After reading about M5, this is what I really wanted. However, I am absolutely thrilled with my 540i.

As I try to decide ordering a 550e versus 540i, I was reviewing the 550e ordering guide and noticed a couple of differences I wanted to ask about.

I don't see option 1CR - Remote Start anywhere. Does that mean it doesn't have it? If so, is that due to the hybrid system? It looks like the i5 ordering guides don't list that option either. I have never owned and EV or hybrid before, but is remote start something you can't have? I get not having it in an ICE vehicle with a manual transmission, but why not here?

Other thing of note is no spare tire option. I see that has to be ordered separate on 2025 540/530. Maybe due to the weight of the vehicle? Looks like i5 models don't have it as option either.

No such thing as remote start for the i5 - you can pre-condition the car which is fantastic - it gets the cabin to just the right temperature before you head off, but there’s no need to do anything with the battery and motor before you head out.

The repair kit is the standard option now, but I think you can add a space-saver tire as an option.

Still can’t believe there’s no adaptive suspension, even as an option, on the US 540i or 550e. Very disappointing!

I have a 550e on order and my sales person was able to add 2vv adaptive suspension and 4 zone climate through a special ordering process.

It delays the order, but it can be done.

I saw that in the 550e ordering guide so that was what I was expecting when I placed my order. I was happily surprised when the order details came back with a space-saver tire included. Now, looking in the configurator on BMWUSA, it shows the space-saver tire as standard equipment. Hopefully the car actually shows up that way!

I just got word from the GM at the dealership that I also got the 2VV. He had to go higher up the food chain at BMW NA to get this done. My gut says that 2VV will eventually be a normal option. I didn't go for the 4 zone climate as I only rarely have rear seat passengers. What did they quote you for the retail price of the 2VV?

They are estimating 2VV at $3,600, but didn't know for sure. I think that matches the Canadian price.

Do you know if 2VV includes the rear wheel steering?

Thanks.

I was assured it did include the IAS (rear steering) as part of the "professional" name on the packages. Also the ride height is lowered a bit. Essentially matching the i5 M60. Should it turn out no IAS, I will not accept the car.

I also inquired about the anti-roll and was told that it was not available or included - it is available in the DHP on the i5 M60. I'll be happy with the 2VV.

Also, have you heard anything on the electric range? I'm seeing 25 mi on the EPA cycle, but that seems low.

Thanks.

No idea why BMW is saying 25 miles as the range unless there is something different in the North American model vs. the rest of the world. Other posters have claimed almost double, and a mile is the same length in the US or UK. Let's see what that EPA has to say.

My M550i has the DHP and it has been great. I would have liked to have the full DHP, but that was not in the cards. And we have to note that we don't get the air suspension in the rear, like markets outside the US seem to have.

Other item of note - in the configurator, it indicates adjustable upper backrests in the Luxury Seat Package. I would be really surprised if this is actually the case.

I guess will have to wait it out until delivery in US starts to find out about the seats and the actual electric range.

There is no Remote Start on any electrified BMW. It sounds like a loss, but it isn’t.

The electrified BMWs all include preconditioning which is all anyone wants from Remote Start. I have a 530e and it works fantastically. The 550e appears to allow you to set the climate controls from the app which is also nice.

The only limitation is you can’t get the engine to kick on so preconditioning won’t work unless you have a minimum of 10% battery charge or so.

My guess is this is due to the risk of carbon dioxide poisoning. If they allowed the engine to come on you’d have a “sometimes gas” and “sometimes electric” reality that might put people at risk. Such as activating it in a closed garage.

This is pretty standard for BMW PHEVs. The US EPA method is much more intensive so cars score lower than the WLTP test in Europe. So all EVs have a lower rate range than Europe as a result. Additionally, at least it was for the G30, BMW lowers the battery to 80% of its European capacity to allow the battery to last longer due to CARB states mandating a 10Y/100K mile battery warranty compared to the standard 8Y battery warranty BMW offers globally.

If all the 550e can offer is 25 miles on electric, it is quite embarrassing. If that is the case, hope there is a way to set the car to use both power sources from start. No electric only. My primary intent was to get something that was close to the power in my current M550i, without going to an i5 M60. Food for thought, and a need for further research. Might need to just cancel the order.

While it would be disappointing to only have 25 mi electric range, I would not cancel the order.

I'm currently driving a 21 530e - while a bit short on power compared to the 550e, it is still quite pleasant drive.

I leave mode in hybrid and the system starts in electric and adds ICE as you increase the throttle input. So power is always there upon demand. Look at Joe Achellies review of the new 550e. Says it may be the best of the bunch. Of course you can always punch the sport mode!!!

My 530e xdrive only 17 miles of range, yet 2/3 of my accumulated miles are electric - cruising around town on short trips. I run my errands or go to work and then plug in when back home. Of course my work commute is only 3 miles each way.

Hope that helps.

You welcome to PM me re: hybrid driving modes. FYI, wife has X5 45e and loves it.
