I certainly hope this is in comfort mode and/or exhaust button off.

Alas, it's probably in Sport +..! EU noise regs and the latest version of the OPF and mufflers have probably neutralised any sort of growl on acceleration or burble on lift-off. Meanwhile, forget about crackles on overrun; keep your F90 if you want those. Also, mods will no doubt be limited on this gen—wouldn't be surprised if they locked the ECU and limited the adoptability of aftermarket slip-on exhaust systems. Maybe tuners will find workarounds but there's only so much you can redeem a hybridised V8 that was never intended to sound animated from the get-go!

Blame EU regulations, not BMW.

Those front rotors (red hot) & front tires were both begging for mercy. This new M5 weighs too much to be the dynamic benchmark sports sedan like it use to be.

So far so good. Waiting for reveal.
Cars are growing in size and weight, but regards to the M3, it's bounded. The G80 weighs about the same as the E90. And the G80's tires have gotten wider to compensate. But the extra weight of the G90 is a whole different scale that will be hard to manage even with wider tires and a dynamic suspension (which it doesn't have).

the g80 is however heavier than the f80 lol... you skipped a gen there and the f80 had a heavy dct

The birds chirping made me realize how quiet this M5 is.

Literally sung a song louder than….🤣

Over all this is testing and hopefully they will tweak out the bugs. Very few in between will track their M.

I’ve read every comment and didn’t see much complaining. Many observations about how heavy it is, brakes running hot, tires taking punishment, wierd noises/muted engine noise, and optimal M cars for track days.

Like some have said, the M5 - at least since the e39 days - has always been a relatively heavy sport sedan. Mainly a highway on ramp crusher and a sportier version of an E class AMG or S8.

The issue here is the paradigm shift of M toward hybrid architecture - XM, M5, eventually the M3. This is brand new stuff even for gen x or millennials.

What do red hot brakes have to do with the car’s weight?

The weight bothers me less than just the scale of the car. It’s a 7 series. F90 found the limit for M5 size and this has exceeded that limit. I hate that it’s so big. It bums me out! This is an M7. There is no M5 anymore.

The new Panamera turbo hybrid curb weighs 5.3K lbs.

Every reviewer I have read marvels at the performance and handling.

Let’s see what BMW comes out before losing our $hit over the weight of this car.
