I wonder if I can retrofit the steering wheel into my F82 M4

I have never heard of this in the rear view mirror assembly but I could be wrong since Volvo seems to have a different game. Any link to a manual confirming it’s a radar? Looks like stereo camera to me.

True, but it might be because it has hands free driving up to 85mph.

Volvo does max speed of pilot assist up to 80.

If I were on the build and design team I would gladly sacrifice the 5mph to move systems to some place else and make a better looking front end.

It may not even need to be sacrificed. Maybe Volvo just limits at 80 rather than 85 arbitrarily.

I am not familiar enough with Volvo auto pilot to comment otherwise, but I was not aware of that, good info!

I guess on the M60 it does not bother me as much because it’s all black, it bothered me more on my 2023 X7. The other downside of having it down low, god forbid you get a direct hit from a rock. That worries me the most about it, but I plan on getting PPF at least put over that entire area.

I had several Volvos before and I think it was also 85mph.

However the highway assist the new 5 has is completely hands free driving at 85mph unlike the prior traffic jam assist of 40mph I believe.

With Volvo you can't really do hands free driving.

Sorry to have seemingly hijacked this thread but I have to correct this.

Yes you can in the Volvos go full hand free. The pilot assist identifies the lane lines drives down the road steering automatically and adjusting to traffic.

I have cruised down 280 in the Bay Area and let it do its thing looking out the window spotting deer with the kids.

You just have to pinch the wheel here and there or rest a hand on wheel which I believe is NTSB rule but I don’t know for sure. All know is that I don’t steer or adjust speed.

I’d be remissed if I didn’t mention I much prefer the M on 280. The ultimate driving machine on the ultimate stretch of freeway. Its car show out there daily.

Maybe my Volvo was an older model (last one I had was a 2021) but you can't really hands-free drive with the pilot assist. It has the same level 2 autotomy driving capability like what current BMWs have (Active Driving Assistant Pro), but not the highway assist the new BMWs have which is fully hands-free

The Highway Assistant enables attentive hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph where conditions and speed limits allow. This partially automated driving function also includes Active Lane Change, when the driver can confirm suggested lane changes simply by looking in the corresponding exterior side mirror. Driver attention is continuously monitored by the system via an interior camera, so the driver remains fully responsible for the task of driving and must always be able to take over should it become necessary.

Is there anything worst in current automotive design than capacitive touch buttons on a steering wheel ? They dont work with gloves. They randomly dont click. You can't feel where they are without looking.

Agree they are less effective
Ithey look like touch sensitive but I don’t know for sure, can anyone confirm either way

As I’ve mentioned on other threads in the past, from an ergonomic point of view, I think this car is a real step backwards
Touchscreens whilst on the move, certainly not as good as butttons and the potential complexity of the item being in a sun menu (where are your eyes looking whilst doing this ??), squared off steering wheel , makes no sense. Forget looks , actually ergonomics
Added to that finger prints , the show cars were covered and their were staff continually cleaning them all the time at the show

Yup just pics of cars in show rooms and a parking lot, congratulations you know how to take pictures.

So serious question, being a troll do you have to work at digging holes or does it come naturally?

We all know why you are in this forum, you don’t like the car 😉, you don’t like any of the new BMWs😂, so please explain what your point is in the forum other then to piss on everyone’s parade?

I am not a fan of the new XM, you don’t see me in that forum because I don’t feel the need to to brag at how superior I am and everyone should have my opinion.

And if you are hoping to reply one up me and show everyone how cool you are, go for it. I won’t be replying so we can get this thread back on track.

To everyone that’s excited about the new i5, sorry for the detour down douche bag lane.

now at the IAA, the M60 was generating interest the whole time.
as people were playing with switches , I noticed that the fog light is the small led strip in the middle of the bottom of end rear end.(just the middle third illuminated - does that mean reverse lights are either side of it?

the interior of the 40 model , focusing on the instrument cluster.

and this is not G60 related but spotted in Munich. I think this might be the 1 series lCI - anyone confirm that?

I was thinking to add those decals
On my mineral white once I get it. I like those on rocker. On the side would still need to think about it. But most
Likely yes. Can always remove

Just back from seeing the car in person at the Welt, many more comments about this on another thread here.

I’m honestly not getting the Camry comparison on the rear. The lights look fine. The trunk slope looks fine. Just don’t see why everyone is getting so worked up about it. And I’ve owned many BMWs over 30 years.

I saw it at Welt 2 weeks ago as well. It is “generic” look. No doubt it is engineering marvel, but very generic exterior (including cabin)…
