Well, define what active means to you. Some people may define being active as hitting the gym 5 times a week. Others may think taking stairs instead of elevators is being active.

I run 2-3 times a week
Soccer on Friday nights
Swim 2-3 times a week, usually after 20-30 minutes of lifting light
Mow the back 40, although with a gas mower every other week now
Sit on my ass during the day at work
Need to lose about 20lbs

Of course it depends on your definition of fat and active, but an endomorph would be more likely to carry weight despite being moderately active, just like a ectomorph can still be skinny despite not being active and eating like crap.

I could walk 5 miles a day and not lose weight. I just don't burn enough calories by walking. It's taken cycling to get me burning enough calories to start dropping weight. Don't get me wrong, walking is good and I still do it, but the 20 mins/day - 3 days/week crap you hear won't keep most people from being overweight. Not in my experience, anyway.

"Active" is only half the battle of the bulge. I love me some food (and candy, drink, chips, cakes, cheese, meats, tortillas ) AND I'm diabetic so I watch every calorie. Because I never eat with my eyes closed, might spill some

Yes you can. You simply eat more than you burn. Diet is like 70% of a health regime. You can almost literally not work out and get a six pack on diet alone. Doesn’t mean you are fit though lol.

Hmmm. Maybe.

I worked for UPS in Germany for a year and lost a ton of weight. Yet I ate at the local gasthaus many nights a week and had schnitzel and fries or brats or whatever I wanted. My lunch stop was a daily delivery spot that was a butcher shop/deli. I ate well there every day as well. I could eat whatever crap I wanted daily and still was losing weight when I left the job. That job was non-stop motion. Like working out 8 hours/day. But maybe that was the exception that proves your rule. It took 8 hours of exercise a day to overcome that diet I was enjoying.

Possibly but usually work around if they wanted to, most say they can't but won't is really the why. It's easy to be lazy hard to be disciplined

I think you can. Just look at the linemen on a football team. It is literally their job to train hard for several hours every day of the week and many still carry quite a bit of fat.

Were you losing weight or maintaining it? Were you fat or fit?

And yes, constant movement throughout the day has a profound effect on weight management. Other than now, the time of my life when i was lightest my diet was made up of IHOP omelets/pancakes, donuts, garlic bread, pizza and chimichangas. But i was moving from 8am to 11pm every day for 2 years. It took 14 months of it for me to start losing weight though. I went from 210 to 195. But within 5 months of stopping that work routine, i was up to 215.

Many of you know that i dropped about 60 pounds between July 2015 and Sept 2016.

I lost 25 pounds of that before i did any exercise. That 25 pounds was lost at a rate of 1 pound a week.

After taking up cycling and consistently burning an additional 3500 calories a week, my weight was lost at the amazing rate of..... 1 pound a week. Why? Because exercise takes fuel to complete.

The above example of needing to burn 3500cal more than you consume in a week highlights how difficult it is to do that with exercise alone. In a typical marathon someone will burn about 2500 calories. Boom, burned nearly a pound of fat in a single day. Nope. Because over the 5 hours it will likely take you to complete the marathon, you'll need to consume a large amount of food to continue running/walking. Your net calorie burn will likely be more like 500-700 calories. Unless you like visiting the medical tent.

Chances are, you can't run a marathon every day, either by limited ability or by limited time. Either way, exercising requires fuel and because of that, you can't out exercise a bad diet.

Being healthy is a balance of diet and exercise. Losing weight is a factor of less calories in vs calories out. (for most people) There are some people who have a messed up diet and consume too little calories and can't lose weight. But there are different reasons for that. If you are more than 10 pounds overweight, have a reasonably balanced diet, less calories in vs calories out will likely net results.

Many factors play into weight loss, (alcohol consumption, stress, drugs, etc...) but that's another subject.
