Those just look evil. I'm trying to understand how those were made available for purchase, and I can only assume that the creative department, the production department and the sales department all enjoyed a collective sadistical moment at each stage of the process.

Right?!?!? I look at these now as an adult and can't fathom why my dad would allow me to get them. They were not stock and they were expensive. I sincerely cant wrap my mind around my dad letting me have them or even paying extra for them. I guess it's one of those dad things that you know is going to end badly but you want your son to have the cool stuff. I only wanted them because they looked mean. I can assure you, they were every bit as mean as they look.

Actually, if dad had tried to be like Ralphy's mom and say you would shot your eye out, you would not have listen. Sometime you have to let kids learn for themselves.

I had a number of these conversation with my son, never said you are going to get hurt, but when he did get hurt I would say what did you learn and are you every going to do that again. Most time the lesson was well learned and did not see a repeat.

Now I have a mountain bike which did not have peddles like that, but were nasty in their own right, and caught my angle on them and ended up in the ER getting my angle sewn up. The conversation was why would they put something like that on a bike.

To this day, the masseuse can't touch my shins. I struggle to put my shin guards on to play soccer every week.

I've thought about going VanDamme and start slowly smacking my shins with wet noodles, and work my way up to metal pipes to toughen up.
